Multnomah Publishers has reformatted and combined two previous Mahaney classics, The Cross Centered Life and Christ Our Mediator, along with new material into one volume now entitled Living the Cross-Centered Life.

Mahaney states in the Introduction, “If there’s anything in life we should be passionate about, it’s the gospel. And I don’t mean passionate only about sharing it with others; I mean passionate in thinking about the gospel, reflecting upon it, rejoicing in it, allowing it to color the way we look at the world and all of life.” This is the heartbeat and platform from which Mahaney springs off of in the chapters to come.

What I have come to admire in Mahaney’s writings, a deep theological treatment coupled with a whimsical style and very practical applications, permeates this volume. From a challenge to “talk to ourselves” (as in reminding ourselves of truth) instead of “listening to ourselves” (reacting to our feelings), to practical steps for making a “Cross-Centered Day,” Mahaney takes what could be mere academia and fleshes it out to the reality of living a life in the shadow of the cross. Mahaney brings a very fresh and renewed treatment to a subject matter that is tantamount for the Christian. Pastors and general readers alike will benefit from this volume.

Living the Cross-Centered Life is a must for every believer – especially for the very practical treatment of a subject matter that should never become blasé to those who claim to take up there cross and follow Jesus. The message of this book is best summed up in this quote, “We never move on from the cross, only into a more profound understanding of the cross.” Are you ready to move into a more profound understanding of the cross? Get this book today and let Mahaney draw you into a renewed prioritizing of what the Apostle Paul calls the message of “first importance” – the Gospel (I Corinthains 15:1, 3). – Todd Burgett, Christian Book Previews.com

An exceptional book that changes your thinking and approach to living a life in Christ and resting in grace. I will definitely be reading it again. Very worthwhile!

Living the Cross Centered Life is a book that is easy to read, but not so easy to live. It brought me back to basics and showed me how to tighen up the edges of my life and focus on the part that is really important.

I have just begun to read this book, and I intend to purchase several to give to others who, like myself, will highlight and write Amen! in the margins. If ever an author brings us right back to why we are joyful even in the midst of suffering, it is C.J. Mahaney. Thank you.

I keep this book next to my bed. I have re-read it several times and it's the book I like to give to new Christians. What should my life look like, in light of the cross? The cross is the most important part of our faith. This book is small and very easy to read and EXTREMELY convicting.
