Emphasizing James's creative use of Hellenistic Jewish traditions in his exposition of practical Christianity, Moo introduces the letter in its historical context and then provides verse-by-verse comments that explain the disciple's message to its first readers and to today's church---spiritual wholeness. Academic and accessible, scholarly and sensitive. 271 pages, hardcover from Eerdmans.

This commentarty will be of great use if you are interested in a somewhat technical resource. Moo devotes a lot of attention to language and translation. This is a solid tool for analyzing the text. However, if you are looking for something of a devotional nature you'll want to go elsewhere (such as Wiersbe's commentary).

Moo has put together an excellent treatment of James. This was an interesting read, and I'm sure it will remain a valuable resource in my library.

The Pillar New Testament Commentary series is one of my favorites and I look forward to each new publication. Douglas Moo has exceeded all of my expectations with this new commentary on the letter of James. It is thorough, clear and comprehensive. Moo provides excellent background material, all of the most plausible interpretations of difficult passages with an exaustive presentation of his own interpretation, and thoughtful application. The introduction is just tremendous. I came away from this one with a much better understanding of James' epistle!
