In this enduring classic, Alfred Edersheim explores the broad sweep of Old Testament history. He brings to his work his immense learning and familiarity with Judaism, as well as his love for Scripture and his desire for every Christian to know and understand the story of God's redemptive work in history.
This edition of Edersheim's classic has been entirely reset in a modern and easy-to-read typeface, is complete and unabridged in one volume, features Arabic numbers replace roman numerals, and new maps to provide for richer understanding.

An excellent history from Adam to the Babylonian capitivity. It is broken into many different and small chapters, rather then just a few very large ones. As a result, searching for a particular period is easy to find. This is not a book of doctrine but is a history book only. I highly recommend this work for anyone that wants to know more about Old Testament history.

This book is fascinating and well worth purchasing. I found insight and information here that I had not seen in any other commentary.
The chapters are well organized and it was easy to find the specific sections I was interested in. I haven't had time to read it cover to cover, but I certainly will at some point.
I'm just a lay person doing research, by the way. You don't have to be a scholar or a pastor to benefit from this work.

Simply one of the best books in my library. I have gone through it from cover to cover and taken extensive study notes. This writer not only knew the Lord but also the Word of God on a deep level. His scholarship is awesome and I cannot rate this book too highly. If you want real, deep insights into the Old testament then start here. Warning--it is a big project, because once you start, you'll want to chew it over deeply and take notes--a big investment of time, but which will repay the effort abundantly. Actually 10 stars out of 5 !!!

What a wonderful surprise!
I think I've read all the other
books Edersheim has written, but
never heard of this one. I figured
it would be dry, not so!
This is a great book -- conservative,
evangelical, straight to the point.
He makes sense and keeps it interesting.
I learned more about the first books
of the Bible in just a few chapters here
than I had in many books in college.
You won't regret buying this book.
