ChristianBookPreviews.comPassion to Action, by Jay and Beth Loecken with Laura Morton, is the true story of a family who feels called by God to give up almost everything in order to put their passion for service into action. Discontentment with life in middle-class suburbia leads Jay and Beth Loecken to begin seriously praying about what God would have them do differently. His answer is one they never expected, one that requires them to turn their passion into action . . . on the road.
Passion to Action is an intriguing story, and Jay and Beth Loecken write from their hearts. Short blurbs from each of the Loecken's four children add a change of pace, and some personal challenges to readers make the book more practical. Some ideas are repeated more than necessary, and more dialogue would have helped readers engage more with the story, but the Loeckens' sincerity allows this book to remain an enjoyable narrative. Overall, the Loeckens' story challenges readers to consider God's will for their lives. It echoes JesusÂ’ call to the rich man in Mark 10:21, which says, "Jesus looked at him and loved him. 'One thing you lack,' he said. 'Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.'" Although most Christians probably won't choose to serve by traveling around the country as the Loeckens did and still do, Passion to Action still acts as a compelling call for Christians to serve God with their passions and dreams.
