Product Description

This book is an attempt to set forth Biblical eschatology, or what the Bible teaches about the future. The point of view adopted in this study regarding the coming of the kingdom of God: both present and future, recognizes a distinction between the "already" ,the present state of the kingdom as inaugurated by Christ, and the "not yet", the final establishment of the kingdom which will take pla ce at the time of Christ's Second Coming. This is the third in a compendium of doctrinal studies that includes Created in God's Image and Saved by Grace.

Excellent. Hoekema has taken a subject that often leaves many confused in sensationalism, and uncovered a clear path to understanding the present and coming Kingdom of God.

I have enjoyed and recommended this book for years. Though slightly dated, and therefore not conversant with the current debate over radical preterism, it remains by far the single most comprehensive and penetrating volume on eschatology available. It is particularly helpful in explaining and refuting the Dispensational heresy that so beclouds the Blessed Hope of the Church. Yet the spirit of the book is always irenic, never schismatic. If, along with this book, you buy More Than Conquerors (Wm. Hendrickson)and Leupold's commentary on Daniel, your eschatology library will be complete.

The best comprehensive treatment of Reformed amillennialism and eschatology in print. Must reading! Also, to complement this one, Cornelius Venema's, Promise of the Future, along with Kim Riddlebarger's, A Case for Amillennialism.

The Bible and the Future, by Anthony A. Hoekema, is a theological work seeking to "...set forth [a] biblical eschatology, or what the Bible teaches about the future...the book is divided into two sections. The first section, Inaugurated Eschatology, deals with the present fulfillment of the kingdom and the blessings already enjoyed by the redeemed community; while the second, Future Eschatology, takes up such topics as the state of the believer between death and the resurrection, the signs of the times, the Second Coming of Christ, the millennium, the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, and the new earth (p. xi)." Hoekema, (1913-1988) was professor of systematic theology at Calvin Theological Seminary, in Grand Rapids, Michigan and has written several other works, including, Saved by Grace and Created in the Image of God.
