The Ransom by far is my favorite book by Mary Lu Tyndall. The Pirate Earl is a man that every women dreams about and wants. He was always there for Juliana. Juliana is pretty amazing women her self, proving that a women can do anything a man can do especially running a busy. This book really kept me on edge. All the characters had there on problems and struggles, and that made the characters more real to me. This is one book you are going to read over and over again, I can promise you that.

Not often can I say with complete confidence that I love a book, but with The Ransom I can! After finishing this book, I read it a second time to make sure that I liked it as well the second time. I did. What is not to love when the heroine’s suitors are a pirate and a fop?
Juliana Dutton is determined, independent, and sometimes stubborn. The Pirate Earl is swoon-worthy. Lord Munthrope is flippant, foppish, and unforgettable.
Juliana Dutton has a secret, one that could cost her everything if it is found out. With an ailing father and a wastrel for a brother, she is secretly running her family’s business. When a disagreeable, detestable suitor threatens her, her only aid comes from the town fop. Agreeing to become engaged to Lord Munthrope, she finds in him more than she expected, for he has secrets of his own. When Juliana develops feelings for two very different men, she must decide who she can trust, a fop, or a pirate.
There was a Christian theme throughout the story, but it is not beat into you with a cudgel. MaryLu Tyndall does a fantastic job, as always, writing flawed characters whose walk with the Lord is true to life. We can all struggle with keeping the faith in the face of trials like Juliana Dutton. We know people who deny the Lord even though they were raised knowing the Lord like Alex. We feel for them as they fight every step of the way, but we trust and believe that one day they will return to the Father who loves them without fail. That is one of the main reasons I love MaryLu’s stories, and The Ransom is perhaps the best.
The Ransom is full of wit, fun, action, adventure, and romance. There were moments when I shouted at the characters, grit my teeth, and wanted to throw the book because of foolish decisions made, but I held on and was not disappointed.

Review of The Ransom --author Mary Lu Tyndall
Reviewer Elva Cobb Martin, President American Christian Fiction Writers South Carolina Chapter 6/13/14
I was so happy to be back on the high seas with Mary Lu Tyndall’s wonderfully drawn characters, exciting plots and strong spiritual elements she always manages to weave in without being the least bit preachy.
The Ransom scores five stars on all these points.
What’s not to love about a heroine, Juliana, struggling with low self-esteem and her family’s survival, plus the failure of the men in her life, but full of courage and grit; and a hero, son of The Redemption’s Captain Merrick, struggling with making his parent’s faith his own? The Ransom is a skillfully spun historical tale dealing with these needs common to men and women in every generation, including love and romance in scintillating doses.
Mary Lu is a master (mistress?) at giving what I call “big ending shocks†in her novels and this one is no different. I can only describe the last scenes of The Ransom as Whamo! Whamo! The final whammy is an historic event you don’t want to miss.

MaryLu Tyndall in her new book, “The Ransom†Book Four in her Legacy of the King’s Pirates series published by Ransom Press introduces us to Juliana Dutton.
From the back cover: Family and fortune betrayed her. Would fate do the same?
Port Royal, Jamaica 1692
Living in a city deemed the wickedest in the world is no easy task for Miss Juliana Dutton. To make matters worse, with an ailing father and a drunken fool for a brother, she is forced to take over the running of the family business in order to survive. When a meddlesome suitor threatens to discover her secret and cast them all out into the streets, she agrees to a spurious engagement to the town buffoon, Lord Munthrope. She only hopes the man is trustworthy.
The Pirate Earl, Alexander Hyde, son of the infamous Captain Edmund Merrick Hyde, is the most feared pirate in Port Royal. Disillusioned with the religion of his parents and the pleasures of the world, Alex staves off the emptiness by leading a dual life to hide his deepest secrets.
A long time enemy is out to destroy Alex and take Juliana for his own. Struggling to maintain her faith in the Divine, Juliana faces her problems bravely, but the harder she tries, the more it seems everything is working against her. Unwittingly, she and her weak fiance become entangled in the hostility between the Pirate Earl and his enemy, while even more dangerous forces are rising up to destroy them all.
When I think of high adventure I think of Rafael Sabatini and the Baroness Orczy who gave us The Scarlet Pimpernel and, of course, MaryLu Tyndall. On land, on the sea there is action, adventure, swordplay as well as bravery and honor. Then just to make it more interesting Ms. Tyndall gave us a romance. There is also history as Port Royal actually existed. The highlight of this book is faith, neither Alex nor Juliana are going to survive unless they exercise their faith in God and He steps in to save them. To really make matters worse Alex needs to regain his relationship with God first. There is a lot going on in “The Ransom†which is good because it keeps you interested and flipping pages as fast as you can read. Ms. Tyndall knows how to craft a great story filled with action, suspense and wonderful romance. This book is a suspense thriller as both Alex and Juliana’s lives are in serious danger from the beginning. Don’t start this book late at night because it will be very difficult to put it down or stop thinking about it. I recommend this book highly and am greatly looking forward to the next book from this highly talented author.
