One Wintry Night by Ruth Bell Graham blends a contemporary story with the whole history of God's redeeming love, and is brought to life by rich, beautiful illustrations. When a young mountain boy is caught alone in a sudden snowstorm, he takes refuge in a cabin his grandfather had helped him build many years before. The woman living there shelters the boy and attends to his badly swollen ankle. She passes the hours they are snowbound by telling the whole panorama of God's involvement in human history from creation to the resurrection.
The rich texture of Richard Jesse Watson's illustrations makes One Wintry Night a captivating reading experience and a family treasure. With both instant appeal and an aura of timelessness, this book will fascinate both those who have heard the Bible story many times as well as those who know only a few details. Recommended for ages 4 to 8.

I loved this book, but I do think the age range is low on it. I think the age range should start at 6.

A wonderful presentation which will hold the attention and give understanding of God's love for His children. I ordered this for my grandson who does not attend church in hopes this will continue to build his knowledge of our Creator.

In school, talk about God and His goodness is not encouraged. I have in the passed found away around it using this story. For about 9 years, I have read it beginning in December as a Christmas book. It is a wonderful telling of the Old Testament through the eyes of an old woman who takes a mountain boy in in a snowstorm and tells him the story of Christmas beginning with Adam and Eve and the garden of Eden. Needless to say there is always discussion about what some children already know and some around things they are just finding out. We spend some time on the gorgeous illustrations. The resurrection I sometimes don't read until after Christmas. Myself, I want them to concentrate on the baby that was born to us especially over that time of the year. It is a great way to touch upon the highlights of the Old Testament in a short time.I have purchased copies to give away although mine is getting tattered. Interestingly enough I have found that Ruth Bell Graham lived in such a cabin with a
beautiful fire place like in the book. I have seen pictures through another Christian magazine. Although I read it every year, I do not tire of the story or the pictures. It still causes me to reflect on the child in the manager and His death for my sake. It is a great book.
