David GoughAlexandria, VAAge: 55-65Gender: male4 Stars Out Of 5Church...as most of us don't know it!January 27, 2011David GoughAlexandria, VAAge: 55-65Gender: maleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4In sharing his experience in the organic church movement, Neil Cole does a good job casting vision for the rest of us who minister in more traditional settings. I found myself caught in between wanting to "start over" and asking "what do I do now?" While the concepts shared appear to belong to Cole, some of his illustrations seem to have been borrowed from others (without giving credit). For example, his frequent allusion to movie themes is very similar to a method first used by John Eldredge; and his illustration about the Queen Mary is almost straight out of an article by Ralph Winter. His section on the DNA of a church, in the middle of the book, could be been explained in a less wordy way. But Cole recovers well and finishes with a strong and encouraging finish. Aside from these "flaws," this is a very helpful book for church planters just getting started, as well as for pastors who need a fresh vision in their present ministries.
Paul Powell5 Stars Out Of 5February 1, 2010Paul PowellThis book really explains how to be missional in your approach to ministry in a very practical way. It is a great read and really keeps your attention.
Jonathan Grubbs5 Stars Out Of 5October 25, 2009Jonathan GrubbsThis book is a great introduction to what it means to be a part of the organic missional church focused on reaching the lost. For far too long the church has been focused on gathering Christians together to go through religious motions, many of which are not found anywhere in the Scriptures. Neil Cole does a great job of showing how the Gospel of Jesus is all that is needed to reach the lost, change lives and start Organic Churches everywhere, Churches that are simple enough to be reproduced with real multiplication. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in "church planting" or anyone who wants to reach the lost in their community.
David R. Bess5 Stars Out Of 5October 9, 2007David R. BessI've been looking for a great summary of the missional church concept -- here I've finally found it. Neil Cole calls the reader back to the Biblical roots of church, cutting through traditional paradigms and dated ecclesiology. While maintaining a fresh relevance to the 21st century, the author communicates a way of doing church that is so Scriptural it appears new. This book is NOT another formula of how to organize, lead or manage a local church. Instead, it is a radical departure from a dying, dated ministry model to one that is Biblically sound yet culturally relevant. I recommend this book highly -- it's definitely a keeper for me!
Matt3 Stars Out Of 5March 13, 2006Mattoverall, an interesting book on church planting methodology. However, his exegeting of certain scriptures as well as his assertion that his way is absolutly correct makes this book a must read only for the seminary student or professor. Other text in the field are better!
