Joy5 Stars Out Of 5Right On Time!August 25, 2016JoyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I've been struggling with the thought of sending my firstborn out into the big wide world and I am comforted in knowing that I am not the first Christian mommy to struggle with this, and I will not be the last. Erin does an excellent job of getting my mind off all my temporal worries and back onto things above - this transition time is less about me and my anxiety and more about God being glorified in and through my child's life. This is truly a must- read!
Breanne5 Stars Out Of 5The Christian Mama's Guide by Erin MacPhersonJune 15, 2013BreanneErin MacPherson delivers again with the last book in her series "The Christian Mama's Guide to the Grade School Years: Everything You Need to Know to Survive (and Love) Sending Your Kid off into the Big Wide World." This is written as a guidebook for parents who are sending their children off to school for the first time. In the book MacPherson covers topics such as: how to choose the right school for your child, how to help your child develop key attributes for success in school, advice from a principal, advice for when you need to have difficult conversations, and recommendations for helping your child find a genuine faith and develop their relationship with God. Essentially, it is a Christian mother writing about her experiences and offering advice to other mothers who are going through this time of transition.
This book was such an enjoyable read. It offers real advice and spiritual insight, but also is interactive and the author shares many amusing anecdotes about her own family. I found it to be very helpful and challenging. MacPherson provides biblical truth and offers much encouragment to a young Christian mom. I enjoyed how relatable her stories were and the humor she brought to the book. It is a wonderful resource and I would recommend it to all Christian mothers who desire to equip their children for this next stage in life.

tammycookblogsbooks4 Stars Out Of 5The Christian Mama's Guide -Grade School YearsJune 3, 2013tammycookblogsbooksErin MacPherson covers a lot of information in this book. She bases what she writes on "The Fifteen Factors". These factors are characteristics that her mother, an experienced school Principal, has found in children who thrive academically, socially, and spiritually. These characteristics are things such as Genuine faith, Wise decision making, and Work ethic.
Reading The Christian Mama's Guide To The Grade School Years is like sitting and talking with a friend. Erin MacPherson tells about her and her children's failings and overcomings in an entertaining way.
My favorite aspect of this book is that it's from a Christ-centered perspective. Erin MacPherson explains that children following Christ on their own is more important than any success achieved at school. My youngest child is almost done with grade school but I enjoyed reading this book. The Fifteen Factors are not just for children starting school, they can be applied to anyone who wants to follow God, which begins with a faith that is personal and real. The Christian Mama's Guide To The Grade School Years will inspire you to have a Genuine faith, whether it's for the first time or to grow it even stronger.
mojoTexasAge: 35-44Gender: male4 Stars Out Of 5A fun light hearted readMay 31, 2013mojoTexasAge: 35-44Gender: maleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Erin Macpherson is a 34 year old Mother of 3 who is a blogger, book writer and public speaker. On Erin's website she says of herself, " _if we're being honest, I'm not really qualified to guide anyone on anything."
Erin has written a series of books called "The Christian Moma's Guide." My wife and I just read her book on parenting a child starting the grade-school years. Our young son just graduated from preschool and will be starting the great big world of Kindergarten so her book was right where we were at. But if your children are a little younger, or perhaps you're still pregnant with your first, Erin has three other books that could be for you.
The Christian Mama's Guide to the First School Years: Everything You Need to Know to Survive (and Love) Sending Your Kid Off into the Big Wide World is a super long title, but a very quick read. And to just piggy back off of what Erin says at the top - this book is less of a self-help "guide" and more of an auto biographical account filled with Erin's stories.
This book covers everything from picking the right school to dealing with teachers to teaching your kids about being kind to others and being courageous in the face of uncertainty.
Admittedly from the cover, the books look like they will be lighthearted and fun (and they are) but Erin is not stingy on the Biblical application. Much of Erin's book incorporates how you, as the parent, can continue to foster your child's faith. In fact, Erin spends a good portion talking about what it would mean to cast a "vision" for your family. Think of your family vision like a path or a road, all roads have a destination and we all need to choose the road based on where we want to go. Visions (like roads) are intentional and we as parents should be choosing those roads, not accidentally landing on them.
If you are looking for a light and fun read filled with humor and a devotional-like flair, these books are right up your alley.

LDawn4 Stars Out Of 5Funny stories and helpful tips to wise parentingFebruary 22, 2013LDawnQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I enjoyed this book! There are a number of helpful tips on parenting my child to have a genuine faith as he enters the "big wide world". The "15 factors" is especially helpful. Great idea to include the perspectives from a professional and seasoned educator alongside with Erin's "real world parenting stories and insights". That was smart!
