Escape the helter-skelter of the modern culture and join software creator Annie Friesen, hiding at the home of an Amishman. With her high-tech career in jeopardy, Annie runs from fast-paced Colorado Springs—and straight into the hospitality of San Luis Valley’s Amish community. There she meets cabinetmaker Rufus Beiler, and the more time she spends with him, the more attracted she becomes. When Annie finds she shares a common ancestor with Rufus, she feels both cultures colliding within her. But is her love for Rufus strong enough for her to give up the only life she’s ever known?
Olivia Newport’s novels twist through time to find where faith and passions meet. Her husband and two twentysomething children provide welcome distraction from the people stomping through her head on their way into her books. She chases joy in stunning Colorado at the foot of the Rockies, where daylilies grow as tall as she is.
MargotSouth AustraliaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5It Doesn't Get Better Than ThisJuly 11, 2013MargotSouth AustraliaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5It's just like reading two books in one. There is the modern story of Annaliese Friesen and the adventure which transforms her life when she becomes accidentally entwined in the Amish world of Jacob Bieler. It's exciting from page one, as Annaliese is gently wooed by a loving God to change her priorities and her lifestyle. Then, there is the second story, which happened 300 years earlier, when another Jakob Beyeler transported his wife and five young children to the New World to escape the religious persecution of his native Switzerland.
The stories work together to give a very balanced view of Amish life, with its good and bad points, with no judgement or bias. Olivia Newport has included just enough humor and romance to make it all come together as one very entertaining novel, which I highly recommend.
Debbie5 Stars Out Of 5Better than expectedJune 25, 2013DebbieQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I loved this book and it was much more than what I had expected. I enjoyed the "history" part of the story as much as the current part because it helped me to understand what this family went through in coming here and how it affected the present day. I was sorry to see it end, not realizing that it was just #1 of a series!! I'm reading the 2nd one now.

Annie makes a spur of the moment decision to escape them and winds up on Amish farm, where she begins to bring to light pieces of her family's past.
Jacob Bieler comes to America and faces the hardship of starting over in a new world, losing his wife, and trying raise his five children on his own. Will he be able to make a new life for his family in America.
Ms. Newport has written a wonderfully intriguing novel, that intertwines two emotionally charged tales. Honestly I finished this book and wasn't really wowed by it, but then...I thought about it and realized that I actually really enjoyed it and appreciated the emotional complexities. This book just grew on me!
I really liked Jacob's side of the story and how he rebuilt his family, yet I really appreciated how Annie learned to slow down and not let technology eat away her life.
Overall, this book really surprised me in how much I liked it. Yet I don't think that I could ever convert to being Amish for a host of reason, I could see that for Annie that direction might not be a bad thing. There was a lot going on, and it was fun to see all the pieces come together. I will definitely be reading the sequel! A great read!
I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
PatsdreamHuntsville, ALAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Accidentally Amish by Olivia NewportApril 6, 2013PatsdreamHuntsville, ALAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is the first book I've ever read by Olivia Newport but its not my last. Annie flees her home, business and friends. Think computer software program worth mega $$$$$ and Annie needs somewhere to hide, try to salvage her business with a partner that is trying to take over and put everything in his name. She is found sleeping in a barn by an Amish family (when she has car trouble). Plenty of suspense, a budding friendship that is beginning to look alot like love. The book is definitely one of my better finds, I bought this book a week ago & read it in one sitting. Her name is going to my indy bookstore to be ordered by author name. Now to have fun buying some of her older books and enjoying them. You will love the characters, the suspense and how faith is entwined around them and how important trusting in God is. Way to Go Olivia Newport
