Author Bio

Leslie C. Allen is professor of Old Testament at Fuller Theological Seminary. He has written many books, including commentaries on Ezekiel, 1 and 2 Chronicles, and Psalms.

Timothy S. Laniak is associate professor of Old Testament at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Charlotte. He is the author of Shame and Honor in the Book of Esther.

    Allen wrote the material addressing Ezra and Nehemiah. Laniak wrote the section on Esther. Both authors have provided a solid overview of books they cover in this volume. I found the end-notes to be particularly interesting. The introductions to the three books are very brief. The commentary itself is also brief and mostly provides assistance in following the flow of the text. Some comments on the Hebrew language are also provided. Laniak has written on Esther prior to completing this work. Allen is a well respected moderately conservative scholar who is a prolific writer. This not Allen's best work, nor is this the best commentary on these three OT books. Nonetheless, it is still a worthwhile read.
