They needed to do something that would challenge their courage. They had to win a battle that would undermine the strength of the most intelligent. Nevertheless, they accepted the challenge... Vida Publishers, presents 'Biographies of Great Christians' in a brief way - simple biographies of some of the most distinguished characters in the church, from the past and present. Many wonder to whom they can attribute the great success of these servants of God like Luther, Bunyan, Wesley, Whitefield, Finney, Carey, Judson, and many others. Certainly not their talent nor to their strength of will. The true mystery of the greatness of these Christians is prayer. For those who walk with God in prayer, like they did, this is no mystery. And to many, the lives of these men have a lot to offer. Their biographies inspire us and show us that victory in the Christian life depends on prayer.
Orlando Boyer was a missionary with the Church of Christ. He arrived in Mata Grande, Brazil in 1927 where he spent four years learning the language, evangelizing and opening works along railway cities hostile to the gospel. Upon returning to the United States, he and his wife joined the Assemblies of God after experiencing a baptism in the Holy Spirit. They were then returned to Brazil by the missionary department of the Assemblies of God in Oklahoma. He remained determined in continuing his work, first as a teacher and then translating books refusing any comfort or royalty payment for his books.
