Through interviews with current and former adherents, the authors explore and evaluate the history, culture and practices of Wicca - the fastest-growing religion in America. Their compelling account will equip you to understand Wiccan teachings and practices, and it will enable you to communicate the gospel to those caught up in Wicca and New Age teachings. The book is also an excellent resource for anyone interested in Wicca or already involved in this neo-pagan belief system. Not appropriate for teen audience.
Wicca is America’s fastest growing religion. By the year 2012, it’s projected to be the third largest religion in the United States.
In Generation Hex, Marla Alupoaicei and Dillon Burroughs explore the history, culture, and practices of Wicca. As part of their research, they interviewed travelers to historic Salem, Massachusetts, consulted practitioners of leading neopagan conferences in the Pacific Northwest and Canada, and dialogued with several current and former adherents of Wicca and other forms of witchcraft to evaluate the past and present of this growing spiritual tradition.
The result is a compelling account that will inform and equip Christians (especially parents) to understand Wiccan and New Age teachings. Readers will have confidence to explain this belief system to others and to communicate the gospel to those caught up in this practice.
Generation Hex identifies with the spiritual hunger of a generation seeking truth, authenticity, and hope in a fragmented world. It’s perfect for personal study or as a gift for anyone interested or involved in Wicca.
Wicca? Black magic? White magic? A natural religion? Generation Hex quickly gets to the core of this burgeoning and controversial subject with eye-opening explanations and amply-referenced facts. Described as America’s most popular form of witchcraft, rapidly becoming the most popular religion among youth, with a plethora of books available on this and related subjects, Christians need to be aware of the myriad forms and intricacies of Wicca and how to combat them. Generation Hex provides a wide-ranging study.
Beginning with the past history of Wicca, quickly moving forward to its impact on today’s society, Part One considers Wicca’s popularity, teachings, practices, gods, and its take on the environment, concluding with the account of a former Wiccan. Part Two brings this topic closer to home, discussing individual young people influenced by Wicca, its presence in the U.S. Military, and modern day practitioners of this craft. With an emphasis on treating with His love all those without Christ, relevant Christian Scripture is presented. For example, Deuteronomy 18:10-13 states, “There shall not be found among you…” any of the things for which Wicca stands. The last two chapters compare Christianity and Wicca, and how faith embedded in Christ can be triumphant. Appendices include frequently asked questions, footnotes, and a valuable additional resources list.
With extensive study in non-Christian religions, author Dillon Burroughs bases Generation Hex on personal knowledge garnered as a youth pastor and from many people whom he has counseled. With a no-nonsense, clear-cut style, Burroughs builds a strong case full of important information, including research from the Wiccans themselves. Many times the information caused me to stop reading and garner my thoughts. has encouraged me to pursue other Christian books on this subject. It left me realizing that whatever our area of life, whether it is apparent or not, we are all impacted by anti-Christian groups such as Wicca. Because of this, Generation Hex is an important, not-to-be-missed book, well worth the expenditure of your time and thought. – Donna Eggett, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

Evangelical Christians often encounter bizarre and inaccurate depictions of witchcraft, Wicca and other neopagan faiths. Whether through depictions of Satan worship, sacrifices or other heinous practices, many of these accounts are simply not true, and are misapplied to the faith groups being charged with such activities. Thankfully Dillon Burroughs (an accomplished apologetics author) and Marla Alupoaicei have teamed up to co-author Generation Hex, a new work explaining the Wiccan religion to Christians.
Generation Hex is an excellent primer for any follower of Christ who seeks to learn more about this growing religion. As many followers of the Wiccan faith are teenagers and young people, youth pastors and parents should certainly brush up on their knowledge of this religion. Wicca is often seen as a frightening unknown within the body of Christ, and I pray that this title will both educate and encourage Christians to reach out in love to Wiccans. Wiccans who have newly come to Christ and those who seek to learn more about the comparisons between the Craft and Christianity will also benefit from reading this accessible work.
As a former witch, and current follower of Jesus Christ I’m delighted to see Christian authors working to remove the stigma from the Craft. Witches, Wiccans and other Neopagans are people, just like any other. True, they are lost, but no more so than any other person without a personal relationship with Christ. There is no need for fear, only love. Love your pagan friends, neighbours and coworkers with the heart of Christ, and be there to answer their questions when the Father starts to draw them. I know that I’m thankful for the Christian neighbours in my life who kindly answered my queries without pressure or disdain when I heard Him call.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who knows someone who practices Wicca, or would like to simply be well informed about these practices. It is well written, and extremely informative. If you are like me, then there are probably several people around you that are in some way involved with this religious practice. I wish that I had this book many years ago, because it certainly would have helped clear up many of my misconceptions about this religious practice.

As a former witch, I always appreciate it when a book of this nature comes
out that is both factually based, and non-hysterical in style.
"Generation Hex" fits the bill quite refreshingly on both counts.
I have to admit that I was somewhat skeptical as many Christians who have tried to write
such a work have fallen far short of the mark.
I stand humbly amazed, however, by their transparency about having to
relearn who Wiccans are, rather than run with pre-conceived notions
that are prevalent in the church as a whole.
Generation Hex has many good points to it's credit, not the least of which
are their quotes from some of the Wiccans that were interviewed during
the research phase.
I have also found that Generation Hex deals fairly with both the common beliefs
of Wicca and with the cultural backdrop that helps influence our young people
to make the choices necessary for walking a magick path. An especially nice touch
was including a chapter written by a former witch.
In short, I highly recommend Generation Hex as informative and well written.

My five star rating may seem confusing when combined with my headline, but trust me...I mean both! "Generation Hex" does a marvelous job explaining the basic tenets of Wicca in a manner that any age can comprehend. The chapter 'In Gods And Godesses We Trust' is worth the read just by itself.
While the authors take Harry Potter to task, they leave the door open in a non-judgmental way, which was refreshing. Plus, they urge parents to pre-read any secular (and even Christian, in my opinion) books they give their children.
This is a regular practice of mine, and it opens doors for discussions that bless my soul and deepen the faith and understanding of my children.
BUT, we must not stop with just this book. Marla and Dillon swing open a door to a belief system we truly MUST understand in this age of spiritual curiosity and heightened interest in the spiritual realm.
I encourage you to dive deeper by using their reference list, but choose books from a godly perspective, PLEASE! With many more to choose from than ever before, we need to take advantage of this valuable knowledge.
Marla and Dillon have merely scratched the surface, but they have mined up some jewels for us to chew on and their compassion for those caught up in this deceptive system of belief is to be highly admired and imitated as they imitate Christ.
DO NOT MISS THIS BOOK, but DON'T STOP WITH THIS ONE. Learn, love, pray, and preach in the power of the Holy Spirit of the One True God and His Beloved Son whom He sacrifice on our behalf.
Happy Reading!

There is an old saying, "People are hurt more by things that they don't know than things they know."
This book, "Generation Hex," was written to inform people about the dangers of the religion, Wicca.
In this book I learned:
1) Wicca is the fasting growing religion in America.
2) About two thirds of Wiccans are female.
3) Wicca is a form of witchcraft, a pagan, earth-based religion. Wicca centers on the protection and worship of the God, the Goddess, and nature.
4) In 1986, "The Church of Wicca" was officially declared a religion by a U.S. Federal Appeals Court. Wiccan holidays and practices now have legal protection in the U.S. and other countries.
5) Wicca is an "easy" religion. The sinful nature of mankind is not addressed. Wiccans do not believe in Satan or hell. Consequently there is no emphasis on repentance.
6) Wiccans belive that both the God and the Goddess possess a dark side, in contrast with the God of the Bible. I John 1:5 states: "God is light, and there is no darkness in Him."
7) The true Biblical principles of salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ are disregarded. The basis of God's relationship with mankind, as stated in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life," is ignored by Wiccans.
8) However, Dillon Burroughs and Marla Alupoaicei, authors of Generation Hex, are adamant to stress that God loves Wiccans. It's always His plan that people turn their hearts to Him, and that no one will perish spiritually.
This book is a must-read. Every parent with a child over the age of 8 needs to read this book. Every teenager needs to read this book. Be informed about the subtle dangers of Wicca by reading Generation Hex.

This book incorporates several positive features, including the authors' interviews with Wiccans as part of the research process for the preparation of the book, a recognition that many Wiccans and other Pagans have had negative experiences with Christians and churches to which Christians should be sensitive and self-critical, and a desire to move beyond and correct stereotypes of Wicca perpetuated by Christians. Yet despite these commendable aspects I found several elements in the book problematic. These can be summarized:
The marketing for the book is sensational which fuels the tabloid-nature of this volume.
The authors' use of demographic data is is fraught with difficulties in that the claim that Wicca is the fastest-growing religion, poised to be the third largest in the U.S. by 2012 cannot be substantiated.
The volume does not completely overcome Christian stereotypes of Wicca and Paganism, such as the hint of secret forms of Wicca, and that some Wiccans might engage in animal sacrifice and the worship of Satan.
