An unexamined Christian life is usually full of popular cliches used to cover over questions, issues, and even doctrine that are misunderstood. We've all heard some of these - "God has a perfect plan for your life," "It's a mystery,just accept it," "All sins are equal," just to name a few - so many times that we tend to believe them without examining them critically. But what do we do when these 'answers' don't satisfy the questions that they supposedly address? Roger Olson is questioning the cliches of 'folk Christianity' and shining the light of Scripture on them. In a very transparent book, Olson shares what he has found as both a student of the Bible and a professor of theology (George W. Truett Theological Seminary of Baylor University) while not forcing his findings onto the reader. Instead he encourages the reader to examine his own faith as illuminated by the Bible, and not take 'pop Christianity' at face value.
