Product Description

The Expository Dictionary of Bible Words gives you the fruits of a working knowledge Hebrew and Greek without the years of language study. This book is more than just a handy alphabetical guide to the English translation of the Hebrew and Greek words used in both Testaments. There are thousands of articles, all arranged alphabetically by English word and coded to Strong's numbering system for ease of use. Each article is divided into two sections: Old Testament (Hebrew) words and New Testament (Greek) words with an entry for the Hebrew or Greek word along with its transliteration, translation, range of meaning(s), and comments on its use in different biblical contexts. A comprehensive system of cross-references aids the reader in finding different words as well as discussions of related words and themes. The"Additional Notes" to articles throughout the volume provide valuable and insightful information on the connections between Old and New Testament words and themes.

Also included is a CD-ROM containing the complete text of the Expository Dictionary in several formats for PC and PDA. In addition to providing a stand alone PDF which preserves the format of the print edition (but adds links which allow you to"jump"directly to related references) the full content is also provided in a format compatible with other titles in Hendrickson Publishers' ScriptureLink program and fully integrates with other Bibles and a whole range of available reference works.

I am pleased to add this product to my growing inventory of study materials. I already have the Strong's Concordance on my computer and now I have added this dictionary as well.

This is a book that deserves a prominent place on any serious bible students bookshelf. More detailed than a concordance, it helps to overcome the inevitable loss of meaning that translation cannot always convey.

I've enjoyed using the Expository Dictionary and for the price, it is money well spent. I use it along with Vine's Dictionary and find the combination to be very useful in my Bible study.

This dictionary is poor indeed. To make it plain, Vine's dictionary may be simple enough to be used even by people not acquainted with the Biblical languages or the linguistic technical terms, but many times it offers enlightening information even to scholars. On the contrary, this dictionary says less than the basic. To give an example, the article "Create" says nothing (!) about the use of "qanah" in the Old Testament. The same lemma, mentioning the verb "ktizo" in the New Testament, says nothing about its background and its classical use. Just compare these articles with the ones of Vine, and you will understand what I mean. Hence, I would suggest this dictionary only to people who find Vine's dictionary too difficult to read.

This expository dictionary is understandable and easy to use. The entries are alphabetical acording to the english translation of the Hebrew or Greek word used in the Bible. The Hebrew and Greek are keyed to the Strong's numbering system. There's an index of the Hebrew and Greek words listed by Strong's numbers, not English words alphabetically. I got this along with "Mounce's Complete Expository Dictionary of Old & New Testament Words" because each dictionary has something the other doesn't. There are Hebrew and Greek dictionaries in the back of "Mounce's" whereas you would have to get "Strong's Exaustive Concordance of the Bible" by Hendrickson to get the Hebrew and Greek dictionaries. There both great tools for learning the Bible in the original languages.
