Tell us a little about yourself. Well, let's see. I am a wife, mom of three, and
hold a degree in mechanical engineering. Two of
our three children are now in college, and one
is still at home, learning along with me. We
live on our tree farm in the Appalachian
mountains in Tennessee, and stay busy growing
kids and trees, surrounded by breath-taking
beauty that God created.
What was your motivation behind this project? After 34 books and with two children in college,
it is time to make sure that others have a
simple to use tool to create their own unit
studies. With sections on learning styles, how
to research a topic, and more, this book can be
a valuable tool in any homeschooling adventure.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Unit Studies 101 was written so that others can
easily create their own complete unit study,
using my own methods, forms and clickable
Internet favorite resources. I wrote this book
to help others write studies for their own
children's interests, whether that is dinosaurs,
ballet, tree forts, or horses. This book is the
simple to use "how to" for writing your own unit
studies.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? When we first began homeschooling, we tried
textbooks, but they were so boring, and the
children did not have long-term retention of the
material that was covered. If I was going to
invest my time in homeschooling, I wanted to
make sure that they remembered and understood
the things that we were studying! So, I dug
deeper into how children learn, and discovered
unit studies. From there, I found a book by
Valerie Bendt, and learned enough about unit
studies to venture out on my own, and the rest
is history!
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Unit Studies 101 is complete on this CD-ROM, with
printable forms and clickable Internet resource
