While the book has been appreciated for its literary contribution, even in the secular world, Hywel R. Jones has chosen to focus on reading the Old Testament book through the eyes of the New Testament revelation. The author's goal is to provide a commentary that would be useful for teaching and preaching in presenting the truths of God to every culture, not only through edification but also evangelism.

Dr. Hywel R. Jones became Professor of Practical Theology at Westminster Seminary, California in 2000. Prior to that he was Editorial Director of the banner of Truth Trust, Principal of London Theological Seminary, pastor of Grove Chapel, London, and pastor at Borras Park in Wrexham.
