Product Description

As the years pass and we watch more and more of our family, friends and mentors pass away, it is only natural to ask questions about heaven. However, our understanding of heaven is often limited to a few half-forgotten Sunday school lessons and the insubstantial images provided by popular movies and T.V. Fortunately, in Heaven Randy Alcorn provides us with a thoroughly researched and biblically definitive description of heaven. As Alcorn addresses our most serious questions about heaven, including the nature of judgment, and answers a few of our less serious questions as well, including the accessibility of cafe mochas the sweet by and by, we will develop a deeper understanding of our eternal destination and will find the courage to strive for heaven while we're living on earth.

Library Journal

The last decade saw a growing number of "life after life"-themed books entering the marketplace, each trying to provide a glimpse into the next world. This one is destined to hold a unique place among those titles. Drawing on sound biblical and historical fact, noted Christian writer and speaker Alcorn tries to correct some of the popular myths generated by the mass media. Part 1 is certainly the more substantive section, for here the author skillfully establishes complex theological foundations in accessible language with wonderfully illustrative stories. Part 2 may be more interesting as it addresses such popular questions as what the resurrected Earth will be like, what our bodies will look like, what will happen to our pets, and what will occupy our time in heaven. However, the book is most effective when read consecutively, for the theological background in Part 1 is essential to understanding Alcorn's conclusions in Part 2. Although Alcorn is writing for popular consumption, the detailed notes and select bibliography will satisfy more scholarly interests. Recommended for larger public libraries.-John-Leonard Berg, Univ. of Wisconsin Lib., Platteville Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

Publisher's Weekly

According to Alcorn (The Treasure Principle; Deadline; Safely Home), the subject of heaven rates as one of the least accurately discussed subjects in the whole of Christendom. Even seminarians fail to give appropriate time and attention to heaven as described throughout the Bible because other themes take pre-eminence both chronologically and preferentially. Alcorn is likewise astounded that the majority of Christians who do take time to consider heaven often possess faulty, nonbiblical assumptions, one of the most common being the misconception of heaven as a place of unending church services. The author, who is also the founder of the nonprofit organization Eternal Perspective Ministries (EPM), has spent years studying what the Bible says about heaven, and in this compelling and comprehensive resource, he offers every conceivable question about heaven, or the "New Earth," as a Christian believer's ultimate destination. Alcorn answers the expected queries on heavenly life as well as quirkier ones: will Christians drink coffee in heaven? Will there be homeownership, and what about sex? Will our pets be in heaven? Evangelical scholars and laypersons alike will appreciate Alcorn's expansive-though perhaps long-winded-musings on this neglected subject, a real boon in a time when many people are eager to understand what happens after death. (Oct.) Forecast: Tyndale is committing $80,000 to promote this title, which will certainly be a CBA bestseller and perhaps a crossover hit. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

Randy Alcorn has wrote an excellent book about heaven based on scripture. Many of my questions were answered clearly in this book. After reading Heaven, you will yearn more for the day you meet your heavenly Savior and your loved ones who are rejoicing with Jesus at this present moment.

This book has provided some biblical insight and questionable imagination regarding our early beginning and description of personal relationships in the future.

I have found a valuable tool for evangelism. I have always felt led to talk more about the tragedy of the loss of Heaven than the dread & fear of Hell. I am even better equipped after reading this delightful book! I find myself talking more to more people, --it just springs up like a fountain of delight.

Randy Alcorn has done something that no one in the past has done. He has compiled in onw volume the great majority of biblical facts about Heaven. While some of the material in the book is opinion, they great majority is fact. I have studied many of the passages Randy uses in his book, but until I read them in the context of this book, I admit that I did not undestand them as I do now. It is a marvelous compendium of facts regarding the place we call Heaven.

We have not finished reading this book, but so far we really, really like it. It has some very profound thoughts on Heaven. And is answering many questions that we have had, so far. I will rate it at five stars even though we have not finished it.

Wow What a book!!!!! I think everyone should read this since Randy tries to include as much scripture to back up his views. I am moved by this book and agree with the comment on the cover....That outside of the BIBLE this could be one of the most significant books a person can ever read! I am shocked to have such a hard time finding this book in Toronto. It should be available in large quantities so we can buy extra copies for friends and family. I even consider this book excellent to give to anyone who doesn't believe because he does address in the early part of the book how we need to decide to accept Christ so that our names are written in the Lambs book of life. Because of Jesus and his work on the Cross ...we actually go to Heaven and not Hell if we accept Him. He doesn't miss the point of talking about Heaven without mentioning the reality of the other. Accepting Christ into our hearts is the only way to get to Heaven and be with Jesus forever. The church today needs to have a clear understanding of the reality of our future destination which will be forever! The BIBLE does have so much to tell us if we study it closely just like Randy has in this book. Believers and non believers both have so much misonceptions about the reality of both Heaven and Hell. It is important to be informed and be able to spread the "GOOD NEWS"!
