This set contains over 9,000 topics and 3,500 cross-references, including an article on every name of a person or place mentioned in the Bible. It also examines major Bible doctrines and gives opposing articles on controversial topics to ensure a rounded explanation and description. Hundreds of evangelical contributors from many fields of biblical research make this encyclopedia a well-rounded resource. The Dead Sea Scrolls, the Apocrypha and other extrabiblical resources are utilized and explained. This work is based on the Revised Standard Version, however the distinctive readings of the AV and the NEB are included usually as cross-references. ISBE is also an exegetical tool because it provides a brief discussion of problem texts under the English keywords and guides the exegete to more information that is found in other scholarly resources. Each entry provides a maximum amount of information in compact form, including pronunciation, etymology, and variant renderings. This is a must have for any biblical scholar.

I occasionally borrowed my associate’s copies of this encyclopedia and am now glad to have my own set. I find the articles very thorough and helpful for personal study and sermon preparation. The specific details provided help to beef up sermons and presentations. This is simply a good tool to have in your study if you deliver the Word of God to people. I hope to use well and enjoy fully this set.

Get ready for a serious Bible study tool when you buy this. This is a cream of crop Bible dictionary. It is jam packed with exegetical information such as language & historical meaning. If you want the cadillac of Bible dictionaries this is the one to get...however this is text heavy with some pictures...this is exegetical meat.

Without hesitation, this set gets five stars. First, the volumes are attractively presented, better than in the product photo. Second, the articles that I have thus far read are written with more respect for the sanctity of Scripture than those in the much more expensive and, to my mind, inferior six-volume 'Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary'. Third, the photographic content is far superior to the miserable effort made by the 'Anchor' publishers, with many colour photos. Fourth, this set is heavily underpriced. Once again, CBD make a wonderful resource available at a giveaway price. My recommendation: if you're in the market for an encyclopedia, ignore the overpriced 'Anchor' set. Do not hesitate to buy this product. Fantastic value for money!!!

My Pastor recommended this set to me. In a short two weeks I have found this set amazing. I have been leading a Bible study on the Pilgrim Feasts of the Lord and this set has been so valuable and informative in my quest for in depth knowledge. Actually, I recommended it to the entire class. This set is a must for the serious Bible student, or anyone who earnestly desires to understand and study the Word of God. I highly recommend this set. An excellent value for the price!

I challenge you. If you can read and comprehend all the resource material in these volumes you will not have time to do much else. I was so facinated by the set I tried to read every article. Oh well, I know I always have the best if I need It. Get the set you too will give it a 5+ rating
