Increase Mather grew up near colonial Boston. His father was a prominent Puritan preacher, and Increase followed in his footsteps. Many times Increase found his freedom to worship nearly taken away. The Church of England threatened Puritans in Britain, and some people wanted to do the same in the colonies. Increase devoted much of his life to preserving freedom of religion. Increase faced one of his greatest challenges when a problem appeared in the village of Salem. Strange things were happening in the village, and people began to believe that witchcraft was responsible. How would Increase solve the problem?
