The death of a loved one is hard enough for and adult to understand and accept. Even more profound is a child's sense of confusion and loss upon the death of someone near and dear. In What Happened When Grandma Died, Peggy Barker presents life and death in terms a child can understand easily. She addresses sensitively the contradictions a young child faces upon hearing a deceased relative is "in heaven with Jesus" and then seeing the body in the funeral setting. Scripture verses help the child understand the experience and reinforce the joyful hope of heaven. A simple story, a comforting message, and a solid Christian context make What Happened When Grandma Died a book to be shared by young and old alike whenever a dear one dies. Recommended for ages 4 to 9.

Wonderful book! Great for reading and sharing God's truth to children; but also great for re-confirming known truth to adults.

What an incredible tool! This book helped my two preschoolers (ages 3 and 4) when we experienced a death in the family. It so simply and respectfully explains a subject that many children--and even adults--do not fully comprehend. The illustrations are beautiful and engaging. I highly recommend this book for preschool through elementary aged kids.

This was a fantastic tool as we prepared our elementary aged children for their Grandparents' deaths due to cancer. It showed a funeral as well so we could discuss what was to be expected during their grandparents' funeral.
