Reviewed by Michelle (Harrisburg, PA), October 11, 2007 This was an excellent book. It allows you to understand why the Amish have taken a stand on some issues where we just assume they are behind the times. For example, it's not that they are against telephones, they just understand that once they have a phone in the house, they will be using it all the time and spending lots of time gossiping with neighbors thereby giving them less time with family and God. It's a book that give you a lot to think about. Write a review of The Amish: In Their Own Words
