Tell us a little about yourself. Well, let's see. I am a wife, mom of three, and
hold a degree in mechanical engineering. Two of
our three children are now in college, and one
is still at home, learning along with me. We
live on our tree farm in the Appalachian
mountains in Tennessee, and stay busy growing
kids and trees, surrounded by breath-taking
beauty that God created.
What was your motivation behind this project? I wrote the book "American Government" after
becoming frustrated with a lack of good
resources for teaching kids about our
government. I wanted to create a simple-to-use
study for K-12 that included daily lessons for
both Elementary students as well as lessons for
Jr/Sr High students. This study has this, all on
interactive CD-ROM, with clickable Internet
resources included in the daily lessons.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? With so much going on in America and the world
today I wrote this complete study so that
American children could develop a sound
understanding of our government. It is all-new
and on interactive CD-ROM, providing a lively and
fascinating learning program for students. I
hope that students will enjoy learning about our
government and its history, in a captivating
manner - never as boring as the Civics class
that many of us had to endure in our own
childhood!
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Let's see -- I love books, so choosing a
favorite author might be a bit difficult. I have
to say that Jan Karon has been a tremendous
influence in my writing. Her books came out
during some very trying times in my life, and
through her writing, I learned to rely on my
faith and appreciate each and every day as a
special blessing.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: We need to make sure that our children
understand both the history of American
government as well as how it is supposed to
work. It is vital that they know these things,
and this study has received rave reviews from
parents and students alike!
