This book is well written and seems to give a well-rounded description of the times. I have given it 4 stars because I'm not sure that 4 & 5 year olds are emotionally prepared for the pain surrounding this subject. Reading the "IF You..." texts that lead up to this book helps explain a little. Slavery is just so awful. This text will hopefully help little ones and the one reading to them to learn/recall our history and develop and admiration for those who loved others more than themselves.
