This is a great resource/devotional. Many times I would finish my own personal devotion time with the Lord, and then pick up this book and read about the next hymn. In reading the hymn that followed along with the story of the author/composer and the story behind the hymn, it would confirm something the Lord just spoke to me in devotions. This book helps to exemplify the life found in the hymns. It exemplifies how they were written by broken, devoted and surrendered vessels to the Lord and they were written in times that reflect sorrow, pain, joy and more. I only wish there was a CD to accompany the book, as often I do not know the tune of the hymn and I want to break into a worship with the Lord with that hymn. I recommend this book for anyone interested in learning more about the stories behind the hymns. Great resource!

I am looking forward to using this book in my personal devotions. There are so many rich doctrines in the classic hymns; and reading stories behind the songs only enhances the meaning of them all the more. Thanks. I may need to buy the next hymn history book as well.
