Help your elementary students gain a deeper appreciation of music by introducing them to the men and women who created it! Bach to Beethoven, Schubert to Sousa---kids will enjoy reading mini-biographies and stories of 13 composers from the Baroque to Romantic periods. Each chapter highlights important works of a composer; includes question-and-answer activities; and describes the composition on the companion CD. 55 pages, softcover from Alfred.
When I was young, my mother introduced me to the great composers. Recordings of their beautiful music were played over and over again. The music of Bach, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Vivaldi, and Mozart inspired me to play the violin.
Then I became a violin teacher. At the start of giving group lessons, I wanted my students to be familiar with the great composers and to aspire to play their music. Stories of the Great Composers was just the thing to help me do that. But I wondered at the start: Would 12 energetic children, after some fun activities, sit quietly while I read to them background information on a musician’s life? They did!
After reading the biographical information from this book, I played the composer’s piece from the accompanying CD. Happily, music by the great composers can be appreciated and enjoyed by everybody—whether one plays an instrument or not. Includes activity pages. For early elementary grades. 55 pages, softcover from Alfred.

I love this product! My son 10 yr. old son loves music and has enjoyed learning about the composers along with some interesting facts about their lives. I plan to use Stories of the Great Composers for my younger son in the future.

I love this book. It offers plenty of information about famous composers and engages the student with questions and answers. The CD that comes with the book is excellent. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to expand their child's knowledge of music styles.

GREAT resource for homeschooling. My 9-year-old enjoyed it. Having the examples of the composer's music makes it so handy and the stories are interesting.

We have just started using the book as part of our home school program. My children are still talking about some of the tidbits of information they discovered about Bach. The CD is enjoyable to listen to as well.
