Product Description

Most history textbooks are written from a secular viewpoint, but this introductory text is different! Providing a comprehensive look at Western, African, and Asian civilizations from creation to 1620, it affirms the biblical view of creation (though it discusses evolution) and gives your kids insight into other cultures and religions from a Christian perspective. Includes vocabulary questions, exercises, maps, and black-and-white illustrations. Ideal for grades 9 and up. 410 pages, hardcover from Christian Liberty Press.

Andreola Review

Streams of Civilization has been used by homeschoolers and Christian schools for a long time, and with good reason. It is still one of the few world history texts that combines a biblical worldview, creation science, and church history. It does not shy away from the positive contributions made by Christians throughout the centuries. Students will acquire an understanding of the scope of human events from the creation of man to current news headlines. Major world cultures, religions, and their development are explained with the aid of maps, timelines, and graphics.

As this is an overview of civilization, I recommend using it alongside biographies, films, historical fiction novels, picture books, etc. Have students keep a notebook of their personal impressions and summaries. Encourage them to share verbally what they are learning. This makes good supper conversation, and helps them remember and apply what they are reading!

If history is destined to repeat itself when we do not learn from its lessons, then this is one valuable course of study for our future generation. Volume 1 covers up to A.D. 1600. Volume 2 covers the Reformation through the beginning of the 21st century. Ages 14 and up. 410 pages, hardcover from Christian Liberty Press.

(Note: Karen says the teacher’s guides were written for the classroom. They require much busywork of the teacher, which needn’t be necessary in the home setting, so use them only sparingly, if at all.)

Not bad for a text book. :-) Actually almost our favorite Universal History textbook. (Our fav is actually over 150 years old and out of print.) We have this, but don't use textbooks, so it sits on the shelf for use as a history "encyclopedia" when we need it. Does just what it says, teaches all of history from a Christian perspective. If you are looking for a Christian textbook to use either as is, or as a springboard (spine) for deeper studies in certain areas, this is a good one.
