My wish would be that every Christian read this book, barring that at least every Minister and Pastor. I was blown away by its easy readability, concise detail of translation issues yet in-depth coverage of such a complicated topic! If only it were possible to give this gem 10 stars!

I wish this came out in the early days when I was a Christian. I was bewildered where translations can be so different and why the NIV had a large passage that was missing when compared to the KJV. (Although this was not dealt with specifically in this book.) I strongly all Christians to read this book to better understand the difficulties English Bible translators have to deal with. To me it is a thankless task where one will always be opened to criticism because of disagreements of the translation. For those who are concerned about TNIV, you should read this as well as debates on this translation found on the web. You will realise that the TNIV is not gender inclusive - God is still 'He'. Read the Gender and Accuracy chapter for a better understanding of the issues at hand. The conclusion would be to have a few versions to be used as no one version is perfect.

This book is a timely resources for all Christians. "How to..." gives us a road map in an age when one can walk into a bookstore and have to choose from dozens of different translations of the Bible. Use this resource to help you see the differences between the NIV, TNIV, KJV, NASB, etc... For a deeper read check out "The Challenge of Bible Translation, Communicating God's Word to the World".
