Product Description

If God is in control of everything, why should Christians evangelize? Does our focus on outreach imply a lack of faith in his sovereignty? In this concise classic, Packer defends two paradoxical truths---God's sovereignty and his command to "make disciples"---concluding that a correct understanding of divine power shouldn't prevent evangelism but encourage it. 126 pages, softcover from InterVarsity.

This book is the best book on this subject that I have ever read. Avoids speculations, sticks with Scripture, and provides balance to a subject that seems to be out of balance (at least to me) in many circles in one direction or the other.

This book is a must for people seeking to understand/accept the seemingly contradictory truths of man's responsibility to evangelize and God's sovereignty in solely being responsible for man's salvation. J I Packer makes the case for both of these truths and provides a biblical approach to holding to both of these truths without the need to fully understand them. They are God's truth regardless of whether man fully understands them or not. I strongly recommend this book as it is a book that every serious bible student needs.

This is an excellent book even for those who lean toward an Arminian view of election. As A.W. Tozer once said "I am an Arminian when I preach but a Calvinist when I pray." Packer touches the heart of the Reformed doctrine of divine election and God's sovereign choice but he deals with the fact that we Christians are to play a part in the evangelization of the world. We've all wondered how we could sit in church, unmoved by the Spirit of God, while we were unsaved (Eph. 2:1-3). This book deals with this dilema, that we can't come to the Father without Him first drawing us unto Himself (John 6:44).

Great book on both subjects and a quick read to boot! Shows how we are all practical Calvinists when we are praying for our loved ones. Best of all Packer highlights the fact that there things about God that we just cannot understand but we should still except them.
