This survey has been a standard text for over forty years. Merrill C. Tenney's comprehensive reference opens with an analysis of the social, political, economic, and religious background of the New Testament, and with an analysis of the New Testament message. Then each book is examined in its historical setting. The revision by Walter Dunnett includes new material on the Jewish background of the New Testament, on the Gospels, and on the canon. With enlarged bibliographies, many new illustrations, maps, and charts.

This book was for my class. At first I really dreaded the possibility of reading this, but have found it interesting and a look into the lives of the disciples, the time period, what was happening, the culture and the government. I have found that it isn't a bad read if you put your mind to learning what it has in store.

I'm also a college student (MBI) and this resource was one of the textbooks for the New Testament Survey course. Tenny's work bears the mark of excellence.

I'm a college student and this is one of my textbooks for my New Testament Survey course. This book gives an excellent survey, historical, political, and a content survey of each book of the New Testament, and gives essential info about the book (date, emphasis, etc.) I would suggest this to anyone that wants to get a survey of the New Testament, and if you do it (whether your using this book or another) you won't regret it. Seeing the big picture is important.
