Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I am married, have two children. My wife Brook was also homeschooled. My wife and I were married without dating or courting. You can read our story which is available through CBD (What God Has Joined Together). I speak at homeschool conferences and seminars, write a regular column for HOME SCHOOL DIGEST and am a frequent guest on radio talk shows.

What was your motivation behind this project?  After I graduated from homeschooling, I began to see friends of mine who had been entirely homeschooled by Christian parents, using Christian curriculum, make very poor life choices. Many of them, when it was time for them to start making their own decisions, became nominal Christians with no real purpose in their lives, or sometimes they left the Christian faith altogether and pursued sinful lifestyles. This burdened me and convinced me that simply homeschooling would not be sufficient to save our children. We need to equip them to think and live biblically. That can't happen if we as parents don't think biblically, and model for them a consistant, godly lifestyle.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I hope that this book will be a springboard to launch parents into new areas of thought. I trust this book will help you to keep the big picture in mind, have a specific target and equip you to strategically pass on your faith to your children. I have already heard from many parents who have learned to think differently about the task of parenting through reading this book. I pray that God will enable you to be all He wants you to be for you children, and truly live and act with a consistently biblical worldview.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I have been influenced by Ravi Zacharias, Francis Schaeffer, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Joseph Stowell, Andrew Murray and many others. In homeschooling issues, I have been influenced by Samuel Blumenfeld, Michael McHugh of Christian Liberty Academy, Christopher Klicka, David Quine, Jonathan Lindvall, Skeet Savage, Chris Davis and many others. The writers for HOME SCHOOL DIGEST magazine have, of course, shaped my worldview.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  My family began homeschooling in 1978. I have 5 sisters and no brothers. I work for Wisdom's Gate which publishes the HOME SCHOOL DIGEST magazine, as well as An Encouraging Word, which is a magazine for Christian women. Wisdom's Gate emphasizes character building, family discipleship and developing a biblical worldview.
