The myth in evangelical Christendom is that depression is a sure sign of failure in trusting God, weak faith, or sin lurking in your inmost being. Yet more than 20 million American men will become depressed in their lifetime, with the effects impacting their families, their work and their relationships with God. From his own struggles with depression and his decades of clinical research and practice, Dr. Hart has good news: Men have many options and hope!
Depression is a secret pain at the core of many mens lives, and one that goes largely undiagnosed and untreated. The consequences of not treating male depression are extremely serious. Studies show that suicide is more common in men than women, and tha the male suicide rate is three times higher at midlife than at any other life stage. In Unmasking Male Depression, Dr. Archibald Hart explores the many forms of depression and gives tools for coping with and healing depression in men. Hart also examines the lives of Christian leaders who struggled with depression, such as Charles Spurgeon, Martin Luther, and John Calvin, to reveal the myths surrounding this illness

This is an excellent book on depression not only for men but for women too. I am 64 years old and have read a lot of books on depression since I have had bouts of it throughout my life and we have it in our family. I have a Diploma in Counseling and counseled in the school system for 5 years. This is the only book that I have ever seen on Depression for Men. I have bought 5 copies and will recommend it to family and friends.
Thank you Archibald Hart for writing this most informed and helpful book.
