Love Comes Home by Ann H. Gabhart

This book follows the Merritt family from Kentucky. You walk into a celebration as Japan has surrendered and the boys are coming home! WW2 is finally over. It sure makes you feel and realize what our country went through as our troops returned home and those that didn't. No one goes through something like this without being affected and or changing your life.

The author did a great job with showing emotions and making the characters come alive. What a struggle this was for the Merritt sisters...a wonderful community they live in, they have each other...yet not all of the men were coming home. Those that came home were not the same. How could they be after all they have seen and gone through? The women were busy working jobs while the men were away and now the men needed the work. The of course expected the women to go back home and leave the jobs for the men.

All of this unfolds as well as widowed at a you g age and now a single

Mom. What heavy subject matters...yet the book is not dark and sad. This was a great boon in my opinion. I liked how the characters learn to please everything into God's capable hands.

I wish I knew this was a series before I read it..#3 to be exact. I will be buying the rest of the series since I enjoyed it so much. I highly recommend this book.

I received this from BookFun.org for my honest opinion

    I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK! This is the first book I've read by Ann H. Gabhart and I'm already looking back the and trying to decide which ones of hers I'll read next. I am definitely a fan now! Love Comes Home centers around the Merritt sisters, their family and the end of WWII. My father-in-law served in the navy during WWII so it was especially interesting to me. Evie, the oldest, awaits the return of her preacher husband Mike. Evie is a very needy and selfish type character. Everything is all about her. Kate the middle daughter, is the strong one, trying to be everything to everyone. She too awaits the return of her husband Jay, who has always wanted a family and a home town like he finds in Rosey Corner. The younger sister, Tori, knows that her husband will never return. She is trying to learn to deal with her grief while raising their two year old daughter with the help of their mom and dad and of course the sisters. Lorena is an "adopted" daughter that Kate found abandoned on the church steps when she was only five. Lorena, now fourteen, is struggling with wanting to learn about her biological family and why she was left behind. I enjoyed reading about all the quirky characters living in Rosey Corner, not just the Merritt family. It's a small community and everyone seems to pull together to help each other. War changes the men that served and it was interesting to see how each worked through being back home and adapting after being away for three years. Several messages come clearly through in this book. Mainly, live for the moment. Don't worry about tomorrow. None of us know how much time we have here on earth. Also there's no limit on love. We have the capacity to love and give to many different people in our lifetimes.

This book is set in a small rural town following World War II as lives begin to get back to normal. This is the third book set in this town, so the characters will be familiar to those readers. However, you need not have read the other books to enjoy this one. There is enough background information given to keep the story flowing and the Merritt sisters are easy to befriend. Each sister has their own troubles and trials, but the love they share binds their stories together with faith and hope. What a difficult time that was for the world and this small town deals with life in a warm and giving way. There are plenty of life and faith lessons to learn along the way and I love how the characters learn to rely on God to help them through, even when prayers arent answered as they hoped. There are tears to shed, but times to laugh as well and you leave the story knowing everyone will do just fine because they have love to bind them together. I hope we get to visit Rosey Corner again in coming novels.

Until I received this book, I hadnt realized it was third in a series of Rosey Corner Books. I read ANGEL SISTER when it came out several years ago and loved it. This book is just fine as a stand-alone, but there were enough mentions in passing of past events that I am curious to read the second book, SMALL TOWN GIRL and learn more about some of the backstory on various characters. Dont let the fact it is part of a series discourage you from reading this touching, sweet story of a family in Kentucky who just keep pulling folks into their family circle. It is a story of family love, love and loss, and a faith in God that whatever troubles we have in life, he will be with us through them all. There is pain and tragedy, but overcoming it all is fresh starts and hopeful beginnings and deep thankfulness for the blessings they have all received.

The book opens as the Merritt sisters are anxiously awaiting the return home of Evies and Kates husbands at the end of WWII. Their joy is tempered by the sorrow of their sister, Tori, whose husband was killed in a Japanese prison camp. As Tori said, It wasnt supposed to turn out this way. All of the characters had changed in the four years of the war, in ways visible and those not seen; and as Kate later observes, Life didnt offer many perfect endings, not without some pain mixed in. This book acknowledges the fact that life is not always as we want it, but that it is good and a blessing to be shared. The sisters and their extended family love and support each other through the storms of life that come to all of us and take to heart Aunt Hatties wisdom that It is what we do in the storms that matters.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this family- Kate, Tori, Samantha, Victor, Nadine, Graham and Aunt Hattie. Lorena, the fourth sister, was as much a delight as she was in ANGEL SISTER which tells of her adoption into this family. Her warm and giving heart toward the lonely in the world was so genuine I couldnt help but wonder how great the world would be if we all saw through Lorenas eyes. Evie----well, hopefully she will one day grow up. I received this delightful, uplifting book through The Book Club Network, but the opinions expressed are solely mine.

What a treat to read another book set in Rosey Corner KY! Love Comes Home by Ann H. Gabhart

I have enjoyed both of Ann Gabhart's other books set in the fictional town of Rosey Corner, KY, so couldn't wait to read this latest adventures of the Merritt family. The main love interest of this story is the third daughter, Victoria, who was widowed at the end of the second book in the Rosey Corner series. But we also get to catch up on Jay Tanner and Kate, the second daughter and the gal he married at the end of the second book, right before shipping out overseas at the beginning of WWII, and Preacher Mike and Evie, the oldest daughter who married at the beginning of the second book. So, we also see their struggles with rebuilding love after long separations and after the traumas of war. Since my husband spent two tours in Thailand during the Viet Nam War, this book brought back many memories.

This book does deal realistically with the effects of war on a family, but it is not doom and gloom, but rather very uplifting how God can work to overcome hardships by working through the members of a family who love each other and their small community which almost seems like part of the family.

If you have not read any of these books, I definitely suggest you buy them all (Angel Sister, Small Town Girl, and Love Comes Home) and start at the beginning. You are in store for a treat!

This book was a gift from the publisher, but that in no way affected my review!
