Publisher's Description

Each sunrise seems to bring fresh reasons for fear.

They’re talking layoffs at work, slowdowns in the economy, flare-ups in the Middle East, turnovers at headquarters, downturns in the housing market, upswings in global warming. The plague of our day, terrorism, begins with the word terror. Fear, it seems, has taken up a hundred-year lease on the building next door and set up shop. Oversized and rude, fear herds us into a prison of unlocked doors. Wouldn’t it be great to walk out?

Imagine your life, wholly untouched by angst. What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? If you could hover a fear magnet over your heart and extract every last shaving of dread, insecurity, or doubt, what would remain? Envision a day, just one day, where you could trust more and fear less.

Can you imagine your life without fear?

Thanks Max for giving us the courage to actually live!" - Don Miller, best-selling author of Blue Like Jazz

“In every business endeavor, a lifetime of experience and dozens of years of education are worthless, if fear is holding you back. Library Journal

Prolific Christian inspirational writer Lucado (Give It All to Him) offers advice on replacing fear with faith. In each chapter, he addresses a common fear, relates it to an incident from the life and teachings of Jesus, and illustrates it with a story or personal anecdote (many of which are well worn or parochial). Fears discussed include disappointing God, failure to protect children, violence, financial troubles, death, and global calamity. Overall, Lucado's advice is positive: stay calm, be courageous, don't be defined by fear, learn from others, focus on the present. Like his previous works, this has its origins in sermons preached at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, TX. VERDICT This book will appeal to Lucada's fans and Christian readers looking for encouragement and inspiration in hard times.—Lucille M. Publisher's Weekly

Lucado, called by some “America’s pastor,” offers his faithful base a timely primer on living fearlessly. The author, whose sales exceed 65 million books, provides those within the Christian faith (and without) an inspirational can-do appropriate for the turbulent times Americans are facing. Citing key common fears—violence, overwhelming challenges, sickness and other worst-case scenarios—Lucado offers welcome wisdom about those solely internal battles individuals face daily. People are afraid their lives don’t matter; they’re afraid of disappointing God; they’re afraid of an afterlife; and they’re even afraid God is not real, Lucado says. Skillful as a surgeon, he discerns and identifies the cancer of fear that touches every human being, and with like precision speaks healing words that cut right to the heart. While there exists no fast fix or simple cure for the fear-bound individual, Lucado’s tempered counsel and faith-driven remedies will offer day-by-day spiritual medicine of the most potent kind. I've been reading "Fearless" by Max Lucado with great interest. Fear is something I've wrestled with all my life, and I think I can honestly say, with the Lord's help, I'm making progress on this front. So when I saw this title available on Booksneeze, which is a site that gives me books for free in return for reviewing them, I thought it sounded intriguing. Mr. Lucado addresses many types of fear that bind us up and keep us from living the life God intended for us. Some of the fears he deals with include: fear of not mattering fear of disappointing God fear of running out (of stuff) fear of not protecting my kids fear of overwhelming challenges fear of worst-case scenarios fear of violence fear of the coming winter fear of life's final moments fear of what's next fear that God is not real fear of global calamity and the one healthy terror: fear of God getting out of my box With his inimitable style of gentle wisdom and humor, with Biblical back-up, Max Lucado helps us to see through a host of fears and to gain an eternal perspective. Fear is not of God. This book helps equip us to triumph over it.

I am using this book for one of my Bible Study Classes. I find that the people can really relate to both the subject and the way Max Lucado explains how we can have a life without fear.

Fear, we are driven by it every day of our lives. We fear we might lose our jobs, or that the economy is failing. We fear we might get sick or a loved one might get sick. There are many more things that we fear. What do you do when you are caught up in fear? Do you turn to God for your answers? Fearless by Max Lucado asks: What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? Can you imagine your life without fear? As you read this book, Max shows you biblically how to walk in faith and not fear. There has always been fear in my life and through reading Fearless I was shown a reaction in faith is much easier than a reaction in fear. Max teaches the difference between a Fear of the Lord and fear in this world that we live. So what is it you fear? If you are struggling with fear I recommend reading this book. You will take a journey as you release your fear and replace it with Faith in Jesus and that He is in control of your life. We are not meant to live our lives in fear and Max Lucado shows us how not too, in his book, Fearless.

This is a good book. How’s that for a start? Well it’s true. Max Lucado is an outstanding writer, bringing the reader into the Biblical narrative through his conversational style of writing and ability to illustrate important principles as they apply to our everyday situations. In general I’ve shied away from modern Christian writers due to the massive influx of Prosperity Preachers, self aggrandizers and others that twist the Gospel for their own gain. I’m glad I broke this rule for Fearless. Lucado takes people, places and situations from his life and is able to see the common lesson given to us in the Scriptures. It’s like a maginifying glass, showing us what’s there, even though we don’t always see it. He’s really that good. As far as the subject matter, fear, I’ll leave that to you. sounds like a cop out, but we all know that The Holy Spirit is what we need to truly live without fear, but Max Lucado’s Fearless will do a good job of enabling you to see the way there more clearly.

I have always been a "Max" fan. I think he is an incredible writer and minister. I love his true-blue, easy-chair style of writing, and hitting life's nail right on the head. Beginning with why we are afraid, Max touches upon many aspects of the things that bring fear into our lives. While I found many of his points I have already examined and worked through, I felt validated as I read through the many scriptures he provides as evidence that Jesus wants us to live a full life without fear. While I feel I don't personally live my life thinking something bad will happen, I certainly can relate to the anxiety caused by thoughts of losing a loved one, not protecting my kids, or that pesky shadow of a doubt, among others. I particularly enjoyed the discussion questions covering each chapter at the end of the book. These certainly help you to think through and apply these words of wisdom to your own situation, and would be great for journaling. The chapters are such an easy-read as the stories, examples, and fatherly advice are concreted together with good solid scripture. So what did I really take away from this book? A warm fuzzy feeling that this world is not such a big scary place? I have more fears than I thought? There is so much more out there I should be scared of than just the dark? Well, in the end, I feel I have a more thorough understanding of what Jesus meant when he said "Do not be afraid." We can choose to step out with courage and trust that God has our backs. I would highly recommend this book!

Fearless by Max Lucado is a well-written reminder about why we as Christians have nothing to fear. Lucado has written countless books that has made him one of the most popular Christian writers today. Fearless focuses on the many ways we live in fear and then Lucado deconstructs each one through Scripture and anecdote, proving God's boundless love for us. We all worry every day about money, the safety of our children, our health, the future, but God has made promises about all of these in the Bible. Lucado has the warm conversational tone of your favorite preacher. He's always encouraging and uplifting with the occasional touch of humor. This book doesn't have the punch of previous titles like God Came Near and When God Calls Your Name, but it's still a must read for those looking for reassurance in these uncertain times.

We are currently living in a world of fear. Fear of flying, fear of terrorism, fear of H1N1, fear of what our children and grandparent will be exposed to, fear of not being loved, fear of loosing love, fear of not having health care coverage…and the list could go on. Max Lucado again presents an extraordinary book that confronts and convicts his readers. In Fearless, Lucado uses scripture to expand on the fears that we have, from the single person to parents, from the aging to the young. The subtitle of this book is “imagine your life without fear.” We area all fearful in one area or another, and Lucado uses this book to point out areas that we may not realize we even have fear. Lucado points out that Fear is the direct opposite of love. Lucado uses clear and convicting language to address these issues of fear. He does not offer prosperity preaching in this book, but offers truth about the issues that we deal with and face. Lucado points the reader to scripture and our relationship with God to encourage us to let go of our fear, since perfect love drives out fear. Fear can be a strong hold in life. I highly recommend this book to everyone and have since bought copies for friends and the accompanying devotional as well.
