Publisher's Description

Each sunrise seems to bring fresh reasons for fear.

They’re talking layoffs at work, slowdowns in the economy, flare-ups in the Middle East, turnovers at headquarters, downturns in the housing market, upswings in global warming. The plague of our day, terrorism, begins with the word terror. Fear, it seems, has taken up a hundred-year lease on the building next door and set up shop. Oversized and rude, fear herds us into a prison of unlocked doors. Wouldn’t it be great to walk out?

Imagine your life, wholly untouched by angst. What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? If you could hover a fear magnet over your heart and extract every last shaving of dread, insecurity, or doubt, what would remain? Envision a day, just one day, where you could trust more and fear less.

Can you imagine your life without fear?

I recommend Fearless to anyone who is tired of the doom and gloom and ready to step out of fear once and for all.” - Dave Ramsey, best-selling author of The Total Money Makeover

Thanks Max for giving us the courage to actually live!" - Don Miller, best-selling author of Blue Like Jazz

Library Journal

Prolific Christian inspirational writer Lucado (Give It All to Him) offers advice on replacing fear with faith. In each chapter, he addresses a common fear, relates it to an incident from the life and teachings of Jesus, and illustrates it with a story or personal anecdote (many of which are well worn or parochial). Fears discussed include disappointing God, failure to protect children, violence, financial troubles, death, and global calamity. Overall, Lucado's advice is positive: stay calm, be courageous, don't be defined by fear, learn from others, focus on the present. Like his previous works, this has its origins in sermons preached at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, TX. VERDICT This book will appeal to Lucada's fans and Christian readers looking for encouragement and inspiration in hard times.—Lucille M. Publisher's Weekly

Lucado, called by some “America’s pastor,” offers his faithful base a timely primer on living fearlessly. The author, whose sales exceed 65 million books, provides those within the Christian faith (and without) an inspirational can-do appropriate for the turbulent times Americans are facing. Citing key common fears—violence, overwhelming challenges, sickness and other worst-case scenarios—Lucado offers welcome wisdom about those solely internal battles individuals face daily. People are afraid their lives don’t matter; they’re afraid of disappointing God; they’re afraid of an afterlife; and they’re even afraid God is not real, Lucado says. Skillful as a surgeon, he discerns and identifies the cancer of fear that touches every human being, and with like precision speaks healing words that cut right to the heart. While there exists no fast fix or simple cure for the fear-bound individual, Lucado’s tempered counsel and faith-driven remedies will offer day-by-day spiritual medicine of the most potent kind. Many times in battling fear, we feel like we are the only ones facing certain things. In his book Fearless, Max Lucado helps us to face those fears and reassures us that with Christ there is no need to live in constant fear of man or events. Lucado points out that fear can be paralyzing, keeping us from accomplishing what God has for us. He gives Biblical foundations for combating fears. This is a book I will definitely be revisiting. I really enjoy Lucado's style of writing. It is as if he is sitting in your living room, sharing and encouraging. He is also a master storyteller. The book was such an encouragement to me. It’s seems today’s society is so fearful, we hear so much about all the troubling things that are happening in the world. One of his main points was that as Christians we have a happy ending no matter what events may come our way in life. I loved this quote: "Everything will work out in the end. If it's not working out, it's not the end." This is a blogger book review for Thomas Nelson publishers. http://brb.thomasnelson.com/

In today's times it is not unusual for so many people to be chained to so many fears that they face both alone and with others. The book "Fearless" written by Max Lucado is written at exactly the time in life. Our uncertain economic times create increased fears about every aspect of our lives. After reading this book I have come to realize that I have the fear, it is what I do with it that makes all the difference. I have become vunerable with my fear and shared stories, insights and even speaking engagments to work through my own personal fears. They now do not own me but I own them. I have stared them in the face and told them who was in charge, ME! I hope everyone will buy this book and transform their lions of fear in to lions of faith! God Bless You!

This book gets an A+ from me. We have always loved Max Lucado's books. And I so needed this dose of inspiration today. Fear...what a topic! I love the many examples of fear featured in this book. Being a mother and wife myself, those examples involving family or children really touched me the most. Fear can lead to sin, as stated in the book, but with God's forgiveness, we are not abandoned. I LOVE how the main focus was to focus on today and let God be enough. Such strong words! Faith equals feeling at peace, feed your faith and your fears will starve. What fears cripple you? Money? Death? Relationships? Economy? Jobs? Why live life always expecting the worst? Wow! I am such a worry-wart and I really needed this lesson today. One example in the book said "Order life like coffee...tall, extra-hot cup of adventure, cut the dangers, with two shots of good health." I also love the analogy to battle fear with Peacefulness... P=pray, first E=easy, now A=act on it C=compile a worry list E=evaluate your worry categories F=focus on today U=unleash a worry army L=let God be enough Imagine your life without fear...believe in yourself, don't let your worries and fears live your life for you. Life is too short for that!

Max's message is a message of hope that God is a good God, and that no matter what we’ve done, where we’ve been, God has a great plan for our lives. Max teaches me to keep a good attitude and do the right thing even when it's hard. When you do that you are passing the test. Max wants to motivate. Max motivates every person to leave here to be a better father, a better husband, to break addictions to come up higher in their walk with the Lord. I think Max uses God’s word. I think the principles that you hear Dr. Phil and some of those others talk about many times are right out of the Bible. This book taught me that to become a better you, you must be positive towards yourself, develop better relationships, embrace the place where you are. God's used Max to help turn my life around and given me hope, you know? This book is very rewarding. Max is not leading people to some false God or something like that.

I’ve always enjoyed Max Lucado’s writings, and his most recent book Fearless lived up to my expectations for inspiration and hope. He has a way of sharing his own life experience and connecting it straight to the Biblical story. Sometimes, I admit, I am a little jealous about some of this stories. He got to go in a fighter plane one day…not something I ever expect to do! However, it finds a connection to my own life…when I’m in a figurative downward spiral. From his experience in the plane sitting right behind the fighter pilot: Didn’t take me long to figure out where to stare. No more looking down or out. My eyes were on the pilot. If T-Mac was okay, I was okay. I know where to stare in turbulence. Peter learned the same lesson the hard way. Exchange the plane for a thirty-foot fishing boat, the San Antonio sky for a Galilean sea, and our stories begin to parallel. “But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary” (Matt. 14:24). I can think of many times when I’ve felt like I had no where to look in my life without getting nauseated by what I’d see. Until I remembered to just look at Christ, and focus there until the turbulence passed. Max has such a way of reminding us of these simple truths! Thanks, Max.

In his book, Fearless, author Max Lucado shares with his readers real life stories weaved together with Jesus' teachings. He also shares words of encouragement to conquer their fears by trusting in Him. The book cover shows a fearless young boy jumping into a deep blue lake with open arms as he is enjoying the freedom of the moment and the knowledge that everything will be ok. God wants us to be like children and go through life Fearless. The book is divided in 14 easy to understand chapters with topics that the reader could easily identify with. Each chapter ends with a small summary of the roots of the fear and its conquest. The book concludes with a discussion guide to help the reader to maneuver through life Fearless. I have been a big Max Lucado fan for many years, however, I had a very hard time following this book. Although the stories and Bible principles discussed are easy to understand, I was not very impressed with it. I felt his previous book, His Name is Jesus, was more complete and inspiring than this one. I had the impression that Max rushed through the writing of this book to meet a publishing deadline. Nevertheless, in spite of my personal disappointment with this book, I can recommend it to people who are looking for a book and study guide to help them live a Fearless life - while trusting the Word of God.
