Ephesians 3:14-17

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love.

To ponder

Every part of us is, at its core, a desire for love's fulfillment. Our senses seek the beauty, the sweetness, the good feelings of God. Our mind seeks the truth and wisdom of God. Our will seeks to live out the goodness, the righteousness of God. Our imagination seeks the justice and peace of God.... Human beings are two-legged, walking, talking desires for God.

—Gerald May, The Dark Night of the Soul

Hunger for union

Sometimes my soul grows weary and sad when I do not feel your nearness, only separation and distance. I need you. I need to know you, my Lord, planted deep in the soil of my soul, reviving my heart with joy and hope.

So I bow and cry out to you. I do not seek new ideas or concepts about you. They weary me. I seek only you, hoping to feel your love in my inmost soul enfolding and consoling my heart, bringing me the joy and peace beyond all want and unfulfilled longings.

Morning comes, and I come to you once more, sinking deep into my soul, crying out whatever pain or joy I feel within. And a miracle happens. My pain becomes your presence, and this burning hunger for union is satisfied.

I fly on the wings of prayer into the soul of who I am and find you waiting there for me to arrive, crying out for me, loving me, inviting me to rest...and know you as only lovers know.

The feeling of your absence is overwhelmed by the truth that you are the love who is always present within me, hungry for me to come home.

Move me to tears of joy this day, the joy of knowing you. Amen.
