Consumer Math

The Stewardship Instruction Pack features the teaching components of this course, and includes the hardcover instruction manual, Biblical Foundation text, and DVDs. It is designed to be used with the student kit that is sold-separately.

The DVD lessons should be watched first. They feature Steve Demme teaching the lessons from the Instruction Manual. The hardcover instruction manual features the primary text instruction, along with examples. Lessons are organized into the broad categories of personal finance, automotive, buying and maintaining a home, and various other topics. An answer key for the student pack lessons and tests is in the back of this manual.

The Biblical Foundation text supplements the instructional materials. It provides a "big-picture" perspective on being a faithful steward, providing for your family, giving, prosperity, inheritances, diligence, fairness, and more. Conservative values and plenty of scripture verses provide a foundation for handling finances from a biblical perspective.

Grades 7-12. This course may be completed independently over the course of a year, or in conjunction with another math course. Prerequisites include: the four basic operations, fractions, decimals, and percents. Pre-algebra and algebra 1 are also helpful for some of the lessons.

The Student Text provides four worksheets for each of the lessons in the instruction manual. Questions are not multiple-choice and must be supplied by the student. They include practical, math-based problems; questions that ensure mastery of basic financial terms, forms, and practices; and questions that encourage students to think about biblical principles and applications.

The Test Booklet provides 30 end-of-chapter tests, one for each lesson. Comprehensive tests quiz students on the practical, mathematical, and biblical portions of the lesson.

Answers are not included in this pack, but can be found in the manual sold with the Instruction Kit.

All material is presented in the lecture slides for each of the 12 chapters, which include a discussion of important concepts and step-by-step problems demonstrating how to work through the various types of accounting problems. Each chapter features 2-3 part flash lectures with 15 to 40 slides per part; lecture slides to print; 1-3 pages of key terms and concepts; and 4-15 chapter problems.
