The aim of this book is as modest as it is ambitious. It sees itself both as a manual of the history of the church and as an essay. The manual is of service to the students of theology and at the same time lays open to them the problems linked to the subject of their studies. The first and foremost aim of the book however is to offer an overall view of the 2000 years of the history of the Catholic Church and other Christian denominations. It is the history of hights and failures, of incidents and devents as reactions to the different changes to the faith and the church. It is the story of breakdowns leading to new starts, of conversions and continous building up, and this gives the story that has a particular rhythm, against which the believer always tries to separate the wheat from the chaff, as a means to discover the finger of God, who writes in the sand of history. From that point of view the book is an essay in the true sense of the word.

| Triumph; The Power and the Glory of the Catholic Church: A 2,000-Year History H.W. Crocker III Retail Price: $19.95 CBD Price: $13.99 Buy 20 or more for $13.29 each.
( In Stock )
For 2,000 years, Catholicism has shaped global history on a scale unequaled by any other institution--religious or secular. Triumph tells the spectacular story of the Church from biblical times and the early days of St. Peter to the twilight years of John Paul II. While author H.W. Crocker III is careful not to whitewash the stormy controversies in Church history--the Inquisition, the Renaissance Popes, and the Church's role in World War II--he offers an uplifting, affirmative, and exciting history answering the numerous recent books attacking the church, such as Constantine's Sword and Papal Sin. Sweeping in scope, much like Paul Johnson's A History of the Jews, and full of spirited pageantry, like Arthur Herman's How the Scots Invented the Modern World, Triumph will exhilarate, amuse, and infuriate Catholic and non-Catholic readers alike.
