CHRISTIANBOOK.com: How did you become interested in writing?

Both books were birthed as we developed new themes for conferences. We wrote companion Bible studies as an excellent way for women to continue studying the topics we taught at our conferences. Women of the Covenant coordinates with our conference theme “A Special Blend,” and Chosen and Cherished with the popular conference theme, “Here Comes the Bride of Christ!”

CHRISTIANBOOK.com: What compelled you to write a book on this subject?

Women of the Covenant tells us about the uniqueness of every woman, old or young, career woman or homemaker, Christian or seeker—women of all cultures and seasons of life. It includes examples of godly women from the Old Testament and then a section of stories from our own lives to help Christian readers realize how unique they are, and how God affirms them as His witnesses at any season.

Chosen and Cherished is a popular favorite of women who read our original version several years ago. Now out in a new and improved form, it describes Hebrew wedding traditions of the Old Testament and relates them to the way we, as the Church, are the bride of Christ. It contains stories from each of the team members about our own wedding experiences and what we have found to be true as we await Christ, our Bridegroom. As His bride, we can be found faithful and blameless before Him, eventually living in the Father’s house, heaven.

CHRISTIANBOOK.com: What is the main theme or point that you want readers to understand from reading your book? Are there any other themes present in the book?

CHRISTIANBOOK.com: Are there some specific lessons you hope readers will learn and apply to their lives after reading your book?

As Christian women study God’s word in Chosen and Cherished, we hope they will become confident women of hope and influence. We also pray that unbelievers will see themselves as loved by God and that the Lord will use this book to woo them to Himself. As they study Women of the Covenant, we hope readers will celebrate their differences as they blend with other women to become the Body of Christ—absolutely certain of life in heaven with Him.

CHRISTIANBOOK.com: Do you have a favorite part of the book or a favorite chapter?

Tricia and Edna say, “We have always loved the story of Ruth and Naomi. They show us how relationships between women should be and how God moves panoramically through the simple lives of believers.

Joy says, “I especially like Eve, the first woman. Today’s women can learn much about how to be victorious in our spiritual walks, since Satan uses the same tactics today as he did in the Garden of Eden.

CHRISTIANBOOK.com: What makes your book different than any other books similar to yours that are in circulation today?

Through the teachings of Chosen and Cherished, women will catch a glimpse of how much Jesus, our Bridegroom, adores us, His bride. The Scripture is rich in imagery of the Lord’s relationship with us, depicted in the many aspects of a Jewish wedding, but these jewels of imagery are lost on most of us who haven’t studied the history and culture of ancient Hebrews. This Bible study will weave together those threads of connections between Old Testament Hebrew wedding culture and New Testament imagery of Jesus, the Bridegroom, and the Church, His bride. The study also contains many heart-warming stories from our personal wedding experiences, developed to explore spiritual truths for the Christian woman.

Women of the Covenant provides fresh insight on the lives of five Old Testament women, and the reader is invited to make personal applications into her own life. We are also excited about the portion of the book that contains our personal testimonies, provided not only to inspire the reader but also as an aid for developing her own testimony of Christ’s movement in her personal life.

CHRISTIANBOOK.com: How does the book intertwine with God’s call on your life and how you are currently serving Him?

Edna Ellison uses the Bible studies in both these books as she serves God as a Sunday school teacher, WMU director, and leader of three Women on Mission groups at Morningside Baptist Church, Spartanburg, SC.

Joy Brown says, “Looking at our lives today in view of biblical women in Women of the Covenant has been vital to my teaching as a pastor’s wife. My desire for the new global missions evangelism outreach is to proclaim the message of Chosen and Cherished to women throughout world.”

CHRISTIANBOOK.com: Do you have a favorite Scripture verse? What is it and why is it important to you?

“Hebrews 12:1–2 are favorite verses of mine. The visual image of the Christian life as a foot race inspires me to push forward on the path God has before me, focused and disciplined, aspiring to be a spiritually-fit ‘athlete for the Lord Jesus.” - Kimberly

“Romans 8:28 has been my life verse for 40 years. This verse reminds me that through tragedy or joy, God works out circumstances for my good.” - Edna

“Isaiah 42:6 confirms God’s presence in every situation as He holds me in His hand. As a child I adopted this as my life verse, and God continues to show me how important this verse is in my spiritual development.” - Joy

CHRISTIANBOOK.com: Are there any authors that either influenced you personally or influenced your style of writing? Who are they and how did they influence you?

Joy Brown says, “When God first called me to a writing and speaking ministry, I attended C.L.A.S.S., where Florence and Merita Littaur profoundly influenced my beginnings in writing. In recent years, Edna Ellison has mentored me in writing, and my writing continues to show her influence.”

CHRISTIANBOOK.com: When you are not writing, what do you like to do? Do you have any hobbies?

We love doing retreats and women’s conferences, and our team members travel as speakers on a regular basis. Several of us are working on new books and other writing assignments as well.

CHRISTIANBOOK.com: Thank you for taking the time to answer a few of our questions. As we close, is there anything else you would like to add?

God brought us together for a special time in all our lives. He has encouraged us to see His miraculous hand in all our writing and speaking.
