A beautiful yet tough woman working in a beautiful yet tough setting, Brannon Callahan is a search and rescue helicopter pilot for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Strong faith and a decorated history of service have kept her one step ahead of on-the-job dangers, but there's no precedent for what's about to happen. After a blizzard takes down a small plane carrying U.S. Marshal Roark Holland (already haunted by a recent tragedy), Brannon must save him in more ways than one and safeguard the donor heart he's transporting to a government witness on the edge of death. Otherwise the largest child trafficking ring in history-with shocking links from Thailand to Tennessee-will slip further away into darkness along the Appalachian Trail.

 Our Interview with Robin Caroll

Please tell us a bit about yourself.

I love boxing. I love Hallmark movies. I love fishing. I love scrapbooking. Nope, I've never fit into the boxes people have wanted to put me in. I grew up in Louisiana in the 70s as the baby in my family—adored, but never spoiled. (My two older brothers and two older sisters made sure of that.) The writing bug bit early. At 7 years old, I started writing skits and performing them for my family. I've never stopped.

I married the love of my life in 1989, and together we have three daughters—twenty, eleven, and eight—and one beautiful grandson. I'm passionate about writing, but also about giving back to the industry that has given me my dreams. I'm the past president of ACFW (2007 and 2008) and am currently the director of the annual ACFW writer's conference. I'd describe myself as Spiritual, not religious, with a diverse Christian background. Bottom line? I love Jesus and will follow Him wherever He leads me.

How did you come up with the concept for Deliver Us From Evil?

I watched a television special on child trafficking with my husband. As a mother of three daughters, I couldn’t stop the ache in my heart long after the show was over. I couldn’t get the image of these poor girls’ faces out of my mind. The horrors these children endure in their own poverty-stricken country is horrible enough, but to be brought to America and be further exploited and abused is appalling. When my outrage settled deep inside me, I knew I had to write a story about this most serious issue.

Are you personally involved in any aspect of transporting donor organs?

How did you choose the Great Smokey Mountains as your setting?

I just thought it’d be a unique setting with the landscape and area.

Do you have a favorite character in Deliver Us From Evil? Why?

Brannon, the heroine. So much of her attitude and outlook is similar to my daughter’s.

How much research did Deliver Us From Evil take?

A lot. Not only on the topic of child trafficking (which was horrific) but also on the medical details.

What is the most interesting fact that you learned while researching and writing Deliver Us From Evil?

I wouldn’t say interesting in a good way, but I learned how frequent human trafficking occurs and it broke my heart.

What are some of the challenges you face as an author?

Keeping up with the industry. It changes so much. But I love it.

What aspects of being a writer do you enjoy the most?

Hearing from a reader how a story of mine touched them, changed their life…that’s the BEST.

What clubs or organizations are you involved with helping with your writing?

ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writing) and ITW (International Thriller Writers)

What new projects are on the horizon?

The first book in a new series, INJUSTICE FOR ALL, is set to release in January 2012.

What message would you like your readers to take from reading Deliver Us From Evil?

I hope this book helps raise awareness of human trafficking.

What were your favorite books as a child?

The Trixie Belden series. And I still have the entire set.

What is your greatest achievement?

I hope I haven’t accomplished that yet!

What do you do to get away from it all?

My husband and I are huge movie buffs so watching movies together is a great relaxer for me.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Thanks so much for interviewing me. It’s been fun.
