A love like Lucy and Jesse's only comes along once in a blue moon....
Lucy Marsh has lost everything but her determination to provide for her brother and sister. When she realizes her father was likely killed by an intruder who is now after her brother, she decides to accept a proxy marriage in order to get her siblings out of harm's way. But trouble follows her to Wichita, Texas, and nothing there is as she expected. Not the man she came to marry nor the family ties she'd hoped to find. Can it be true that real security is in letting go of her own strength and trusting in the One who is far stronger than she?

 Our Interview with Colleen Coble

What was your inspiration to write Blue Moon Promise?

I love marriage of convenience stories, and after I read an article about proxy marriages, I knew I had to write a story about one. And I had to noodle on just what would compel a woman to agree to such a match.

How much of Blue Moon Promise comes from personal experience?

There is quite a lot of me in Lucy. We were both going through the same things at the same time too. As I was writing the novel, my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer and my dear friend Diann Hunt’s ovarian cancer came back. I’m a fixer, just like Lucy. I wanted to fix both those things and realized I had to leave it in God’s hands. Poor Lucy had to come to the place where she realized she couldn’t fix everything either.

How much research did Blue Moon Promise take?

I read lots of books on Texas history and history books in general. I made a visit to the area as well.

How many books will be in the series?

Three!

Is it in any way related to your other series?

No, it doesn’t have any connection to my Lonestar series or any of my other ones.

What are the most interesting facts that you learned while researching and writing Blue Moon Promise?

The Red River was named because of the color. There is red dirt everywhere in that area. Another thing is the sheer size of ranches in Texas. Mind boggling, really. The largest is over 800,000 acres. And Coronado searched this area for the Cities of Gold.

What are some of the challenges you face as an author?

It’s always difficult to juggle the many responsibilities. I’m CEO of American Christian Fiction Writers, and I spend a lot of time on that. There are always interviews to handle, new proposals to write, finished books to edit, and the all-important time I need to spend with my darling granddaughter to juggle. 

What aspects of being a writer do you enjoy the most?

I love it all! I’m an extrovert so I love doing the promotion and getting to know my reader friends. My favorite part of writing is the editing process. LOVE IT!!

What is your function as CEO of ACFW? What do you think is the most important aspect of attending the ACFW convention in Dallas 2012?

Basically the buck stops with me. The Operating Board runs the organization, but the president runs things by me and the advisory board. We steer the direction of ACFW. Dallas is going to be phenomenal! Michael Hyatt is our keynote speaker, and he is a wealth of wisdom about the publishing business. The conference is the place to network with other writers, to get to know what is happening in the Christian publishing world, and to meet agents and editors who can partner with you for the future.

You have a gift for collaborating on projects with other authors.  How do you select the other authors that you write with? And Why?

To write with another author, you first have to love and respect that author’s work. You have to make sure they are easy to work with and are not set on having their own way on a collaborative effort. Smitten was so fun because it was done with my three best friends. We wrote our own characters into the book so it was easy to know how every character would react. It’s a project unlike anything I’ve ever done before. It wasn’t work, it was playtime with my buddies! 

Will there be a follow on book to Smitten?

Oh yes, two! Secretly Smitten is about to enter the editing process, and there is at least one more after that.

What other new writing projects do you have on the burner?

I’m so excited about my new Hope Beach series. Tidewater Inn will be out in July. It’s set in the Outer Banks, NC and it’s a “bigger” book than I’ve ever done before with all the layers and mystery I could put in it. I’m excited to share it with readers, and the cover is phenomenal!

Will you be doing any more Suspense and Intrigue books?

Oh yes! I can’t write without suspense and intrigue.  Smitten was a bit of departure but even Secretly Smitten will have a tiny bit of a mystery in it.

Do you still participate in geocaching?

Whenever we get the chance! You’re thinking of your favorite book, Abomination, aren’t you, Dianne? I still love that book too.

What message would you like your readers to take from reading Blue Moon Promise?

I want readers to know that God is safe. We can safely relinquish our cares and fears into His loving hands.

What are your favorite books to read to your grandchildren?

I adore the Olivia books and do does Alexa.

What do you do to get away from it all?

I love to travel! It’s a great way to recharge my creative well and come up with new ideas.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Just that I love CBD and all that you do for authors. You are all great!
