Sir Kendrick & the Castle of Bel Lione Discussion Questions by Chuck Black

1.                  Sir Kendrick and Sir Duncan belong to an order of knights called the Knights of the Prince. Whom do they biblically represent?

2.                  Each book of the Knights of Arrethtrae series deals with a specific set of vices and virtues. What is the main virtue that is addressed in Sir Kendrick and the Castle of Bel Lione? What is the main vice? (Hint: combine the Lord of the castle with the town name.) Can you think of other vices?

3.                  What does the festival that Lord Ra hosts represent? Why is it so difficult for the youth to attend only once and why are they different when they return?

4.                  Kendrick and Duncan realize that there are two secret forces working in the kingdom, one for good, and one for evil. What are the names of these two secret forces and whom do they represent biblically?

5.                  The names of the blood wolves that protect Lord Ra’s castle are Hypoc, Deceptor, Toxica, Revel, Plezior, Arrogoy, Destroyer, Carnage, Chaos, and Tormentor. What do these beasts represent?

6.                  Kendrick is resolved to save Duncan, even after having to travel high into the mountains to find the mysterious Landor and then hearing him speak of all the dangerous obstacles he would have to meet in order to rescue Duncan. What virtue is represented by Sir Kendrick here?

7.                  As Kendrick moves closer to the castle and Ra’s forces, he begins to experience fear. Find a verse about overcoming fear. If we are believers in Jesus Christ, why don’t we have to be afraid (refer to 1 John 4:4)?

8.                  Kendrick is hindered by Ra’s beasts in his mission to rescue Duncan. 1 Thessalonians 2:18 says that Paul was also hindered by Satan. How does Satan try to hinder our work for the Lord?

9.                  In the dungeons below Lord Ra’s castle, Kendrick discovers a labyrinth of prison cells and captives within them. Who are these people and what does this represent?

10.             Kendrick learns from Landor that the youth of Bel Lione respond to Lord Ra’s festivals in one of four ways. What are the four ways?

11.              Lord Ra and his castle represent a spiritual stronghold. Can you find a verse in the Bible that talks about Christians having the power through God to destroy the strongholds of Satan?

12.              Kendrick realizes that he can’t defeat Lord Ra and his warriors alone so he calls all available Knights of the Prince into battle against this evil foe. What might this be compared to for believers that are facing spiritual battles today?

13.              When Kendrick comes to his dying friend, Landor, he realizes that this man was the Vincero Knight that killed his family many years ago. What is it that gives Kendrick the strength to forgive him?

14.              When Kendrick and his men free the prisoners of Lord Ra, there are many joyous reunions. This can also happen when the spirit of rebellion is broken in a family. Why is this so?

15.              Because of Kendrick’s loyalty and faithfulness to the Prince, a haven is started in a city that was only weeks earlier in almost total rebellion to the King’s good ways. What does this haven represent?

16.              When Kendrick became a Knight of the Prince his eyes were opened to a whole new world of conflict. His understanding of this conflict helped him to see what was happening in the city of Bel Lione when no one else could. Reading God’s Word and believing in Jesus as Lord and Savior does this for us. Have your eyes been opened to your important role as a believer?
