Susan J. Zonnebelt-Smeenge is a clinical psychologist at Pine Rest Mental Health Services, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her responsibilities include individual, marital, and family psychotherapy; psychological testing; supervision of interns and nonlicensed clinical staff; and clinical coordinator of psychoterapy sessions at Spectrum Health, Grand Rapids. She is a licensed psychologist, certified social worker, and registered nurse. She graduated from Aquinas College and Mercy Central School of Nursing in Grand Rapids and completed advanced studies at Western Michigan University (Ed.D. and M.A. in counseling psychology).

Robert C. DeVries is professor of church education and director of M.A. programs at Calvin Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is an ordained pastor in the Christian Reformed Church. He is published in journals and magazines and writes for CRC Publications. He's a graduate of Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary, and his advanced degrees include a Ph.D. in adult education from Michigan State University and a D.Min. in church administration from McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago.

Both authors regularly conduct workshops and speak on grief issues.
