 Finally a Bride Discussion Questions: Vickie McDonough

1.    Who was your favorite character in Finally a Bride? Why?

2.    Jack Davis was determined to get a big story so she could land a job in Dallas as a reporter for a large newspaper. She later realizes that she’s been proceeding toward her goal without seeking God’s will on the matter. What makes her finally realize her need to seek God?

3.    Name a situation where you’ve moved ahead without asking God’s will first. How did it turn out?

4.    If Jack goes to Dallas, she’ll be there alone, without family and friends. How do you think this could cause her to draw closer to God?

 
5.    Jack’s first father was verbally and physically abusive. How did spending her early years in an abusive home affect her as an adult? If you grew up in an abusive home, how does that affect you today?

6.    Jack was a rebel of sorts, doing things other females never did, like walking on a rooftop to get her story. What have you done that is out of the norm? Did you learn a specific lesson from it?

7.    Both Noah and Carly were good people with bad pasts. Has something you did in your past come back to haunt you later on? How did you deal with it?

8.    Carly was apprehensive about returning to Lookout where she’d first pretended to be one of the mail-order brides the Corbett brothers ordered for Luke. When two ladies at the church social gossip about her being an ex-convict and former outlaw, Carly fled back to the boardinghouse. Do you think she could have handled the situation in a different way? Should she have confronted the women?

9.    Garrett looked down on Carly at first because of her past and having been in prison. Has anyone ever looked down on you because of a bad choice you made? How did you deal with that?

10.    When Noah first became the town minister, he kept his true identity a secret. Do you think he should have told people right from the start who he was? Would the town—and Jack—have given him a chance to prove he was different?

11.    Finally a Bride is about allowing God to take you places where you’re uncomfortable and trusting him to see you through it. Have you ever been in an uncomfortable situation and relied on God to get you through it?

12.    If you read the whole Texas Boardinghouse Series, which character(s) do you think grew the most from the time they were first introduced to the end of the series? How have you allowed God to grow you?
