The English language is made up of 45 sounds which we spell in approximately 70 ways. A phonogram is a letter or set of letters used to represent one or more of these 45 sounds. The quickest, most natural way to learn to spell and to read the English language is to begin by learning the 70 foundational phonograms. The packet contains cards for each of these. The front of the card contains the phonogram in isolation. The back of each card gives the teacher all the information she needs to teach the phonogram. These cards should be used in conjunction with "Teaching Reading at Home".

70 Basic Phonogram Cards
SWR changed everything for me!
Spell to Write and Read has revolutionized my thinking when it comes to spelling and teaching my kids to spell. We purchased these cards and the additional SWR curriculum that these go along with. I expect this program to be highly successful as it has already changed my own perspective and opened my mind to really understanding our language both, written and spoken.
At least one of my children has dyslexia and other diagnosed conditions contributing to her learning struggles. However I fully believe that this program will provide her with a solid foundation from which she can begin to do more indipendant learning and prepare her to read for the enjoyment of it.
I wish that I had been taught this way as a child going through public school... I would have been equipped with understanding and would not have struggled so much with inaccurate information and trying to spell by memorizing each and every single word.
The phonograms are key and I wouldn't want to try and teach them without these cards... If I didn't have these I'd be trying to make my own and there is no way I could take the time as a busy mom to put anything like that together at this point.
The cards are on a good quality card stock, they are conveniently numbered and have everything the teacher needs right on the back... My only qualm is that I'd like to have the option of buying a reprodusable set like in a PDF format that I could print out myself. My dad was helping me laminate my set of cards and lost a few. I will be repurchasing.
Just a hint: don't laminate until you've read and followed Wanda's instructions on marking them first... Then make up your own mind on how you want to go about doing that.
This program is worth the time it takes to prepare! I highly reccomend the DVDs that are also available here, especially if your just starting out. From what I've heard from seasoned educators the program works best if you just do it Wanda's way first don't try to omit or skip around... Just do it.

I had this product years ago when I was home schooling my children. It is wonderful! I have been looking for these cards for several years now as I teach reading to children ages 3-10. I'm so glad I finally found them! The cards work for any age, even adults and they learn quickly and easily. This is a great product and so simple to use.

Cards include good information as well as instructions for printing and cursice writing. I did not mind cutting them. The only thing to make them better would be thicker card stock paper.

Purchased these because my sons teacher required it for class. Would of preferred the A Beka Phonics Charts and flashcards instead. They are more interesting and colorful. These are drab and boring looking but I'm sure they will do the same job anyways.
