This review was written for 1, 2, & 3 John: New American Commentary [NAC].
This is a very thorough treatment of these three small but important books. Akin adequately covers all the important doctrines and interpretation issues. This is a great resource for the busy pastor or Sunday School teacher because Akins style is very readable and yet it is comprehensive. It is a joy to read.

Akin does a great job of presenting the conservative evangelical view of such things as: the atoning sacrifice of Christ, the fact that God is love but love is not God, why the Johannine Comma is not part of inspired Scripture, the different views on a sin that leads to death, and others. I highly recommend this commentary.

It gave me a fresh perspective. No pastor I've ever heard preach on 1, 2, & 3 John never preached from that perspective.

I just recently completed an expository preaching series through 1 John. Dr. Akin's commentary is top notch. I found myself going to it again and again as I preached through 1 John. If you are a pastor and are going to preach through 1 John, then Dr. Akin's commentary is a must have. You will not regret buying it.
