Series: Camp Club Girls
Sydney and Elizabeth are on-site in the nation’s capital when odd happenings occur at the Vietnam Memorial. The Camp Club Girls jump into action. They use their special skills to tackle an adventure that leads them not only to Baltimore’s Ft. McHenry, but also to the heart of a terrorist travesty! Can they decipher the clues and save the president before the dawn’s early light?
Jean Fischer has been writing for children for nearly three decades, and has served as an editor with Golden Books. She has written with Thomas Kinkade, John MacArthur, and “Adventures in Odyssey,” and is one of the authors for Barbour’s upcoming “Camp Club Girls” series. A nature lover, Jean lives in Racine, Wisconsin.
The first book, “Camp Club Girls and The Mystery at Discovery Lake,” introduces readers to the girls and tells the story of how they all meet at Camp Discovery, a summer youth camp. The girls, who live all over the country, soon find that they all love trying to solve a good mystery. And when they discover that the miniature golf course at their camp seems to be the center of some spooky activity, the girls form a super sleuth ring and are soon up to their ears in hunting for lost treasure, trying to catch a would-be thief, and keeping up with their camp activities all at the same time!
The second book, “Sydney’s D.C. Discovery,” finds Sydney and her friend Elizabeth suddenly at the center of a would-be terrorist plot to harm the President of the United States. When suspicious activities start occurring at the Vietnam Memorial, Sydney, whose aunt is a tour guide at the memorial, and Elizabeth, who is visiting Washington with her uncle, a Vietnam vet, decide to try and figure out what is going on. The girls, with a lot of help from their Camp Club girlfriends, soon are chasing down shady characters, and helping the Secret Service break up a plan to cause chaos in the United States.
The “Camp Club Girls” series is reminiscent of the “Nancy Drew” mystery novels of a generation or two ago, with a fresh spin that will keep a young mystery fan of today interested. Besides the adventure aspect of the books, there is also a faith-based message to each story that fits into each plot. Nothing too “in-your-face,” but important nonetheless. The series is scheduled to have two books per month published, each book featuring a different character, but involving all of the “Camp Club Girls,” and will run through 2011. Barbour Publishing is also featuring a great monthly contest to promote these books on their website at www.barbourbooks.com, with a grand prize of a basket of cool gadgets and books, valued at $2,000.

She was over the moon, she loves to read and is a very confident reader, reading way beyond her years, we are just finishing book 1 and she is so excited to move on to book 2, Sydney's dc discovery. Book 1 was very well written, exciting and carried very good messages for little girls, happy 7 yr old and happy parents!!
Brooke5 Stars Out Of 5An Intriguing MysteryJanuary 11, 2011BrookeWhat's going to happen to the president?! Is a terrorist attack being planned? If there is, can two young girls really stand in the way of a threat that is unknown to almost everyone else? Sydney's D.C. Discovery is a Christian story for girls who love modern day mysteries and suspense, with some humor added in. This is a book of adventure, friendship, and also has an interesting and unique mystery. All the Camp Club Girls books that I've read are great! But this one in particular is one of the best, because of the intriguing and original mystery.

jubilee5 Stars Out Of 5January 8, 2010jubileeThis book is a fun read for the nine to twelve set. This time the mystery centers around Sydney and Elizabeth, but the other Camp Club Girls help from a distance. They put their brains together and use their talents, like Sydney's running ability and Kate's knowledge of technical gadgets to help save the President of the United States.I can totally see a family movie being made ofSydney's D.C. Discovery. It covers a large scope in terms of area/setting and plot.I was curious as to how different authors were going to be able to successfully write about the same group of girls. The transition was flawless. And I understand there are (or soon will be) a total of six books in this series. What a neat, wholesome gift this book (or series!) would be for the young girl in your life.
