While many were written in the early 1900s, he shares a unique perspective on biblical doctrine and prophecy against the current events of his time.
David Quatt5 Stars Out Of 5December 18, 2008David QuattH. A. Ironside was a godly commentator in the early 1900's. He might not be as technical or formal in his style as is with Charles Hodge on the Corinthian letters, but Ironside's book remains a classic. He states in his preface: "The object I had in view was to expound the Word as simply as possible for the edification and instruction of plain people." This commentary, originally written in 1938-39, was based on the Revised Version of 1885. The reprint is timely for the Church, for it is a call to study the Corinthian letters which warn us of not living purely and surrendered to God. I recommend his treatment of I. Cor. 1:17-2:16 which expounds well the incompatibilities between heavenly and earthly wisdom. Regarding the author, he was of the Plymouth Brethren. He was connected with Moody Memorial Church in Chicago and with Dallas Theological Seminary. He was also a popular Bible Conference preacher at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC.
