Winds blow a storm into Willow Ridge as Miriam Lantz is preparing food for the day for the Sweet Seasons Bakery. She came in at 1am this morning which is earlier than she would normally have started her day. The storm seemed to be getting worse when she heard something out front. A crash and breaking glass. When she ran to the front of the store she saw part of a tree had fallen through the shop window. Then she heard a man's voice, he was trying to calm a horse when it was spooked by the thunder and kicked the man into the front of the building.

Miriam did not recognize the man. How was she going to help him? Then she heard him speak. As she went to get a chair to take out to him she realized he had gotten up and followed her into the shop.

He introduced himself as Ben Hooley, a traveling blacksmith. He reassured her he was alright and busied himself by removing the tree from her shop.

The day the autumn winds blew in is when Ben also blew into her life and that of Willow Ridge community. But Bishop Knepp is determined that Ben finish his work and leave town. The Bishop has it in his mind that Miriam is going to marry him, no matter how many times she refuses his proposal. When he realizes Miriam and Ben are attracted to each other he pursues her even more. Is the Bishop after her because he loves her or so he could control her?

I enjoyed reading a romance novel between a couple in their middle years. So many books are about young love. It kept me on pins and needles that Miriam might have her heart broken by Ben.

The author wrote of the trials and tribulations of family and community when their leader strays from the old ways. Protectiveness of the church family for one of their widows was touching.

"Autumn Winds" by Charlotte Hubbard is the second in the Seasons of the Heart Series. The first was "Summer of Secrets" which I have read and reviewed earlier. After reading the first one, I wished I hadn't already agreed to read the second because it was pretty bad. However, the second surprised me. Hubbard was no longer trying to out Amish the Amish and was starting to right a story. Even more surprisingly she decided to write about romance and sexual longing. And she was writing it very well. Her characters were evolving into people rather than just Amish stereotypes. Which I didn't see coming. In "Autumn Winds" Miriam is still fighting off the unwanted advances of the bishop as well as trying to get a little something started with Ben, the new guy in town. The bishop is getting his due, Ben's aunts are shaking things up, and Rhoda is getting to now herself better as her youth passes her by. Keep in mind, that she is only 21 and there will probably be two more books. I just hope she comes into her own before getting hitched. I received this book for free from www.netgalley.com.

Charlotte Hubbard has done it again. She writes a story line so captivating that you don't want to put the book down. Her first Seasons of the Heart book, Summer of Secrets, was a fantastic read; Autumn Winds went even beyond a fantastic read. I loved it! I am hoping there will be a third book. I need to know what happens to Miriam and Ben. Will Rachel and Micah continue to be happy and will there be children in their future? What about Rhoda? Will she find her one and only? And the English sister Rebecca, there's a complete story there somewhere!

Will the pesky bishop Hiram finally leave Miriam alone? There are so many characters this author could write about that we, the readers, would love to see happen. In other words, we want more!

This book was filled with love, laughter, romance and some trials. I even found myself shedding a few tears. This book ended all too soon for me. I wanted the story to go on.

I won this book on LibraryThing and was sent a copy of it to read and review from Kensington Publishers. Thank you both for a wonderful read. The opinions expressed in this review are mine alone.

What a wonderful read. I wanted to start baking and become one of Miriam's family. This is the second book in this story, and I have not read the first...sure want to now. You do not have to read the first book to enjoy this one, enough information is provided to let you know what happened.

Miriam has triplets that are 21, and one, Rachael is getting married. She also owns Sweet Season's Bakery, where she is early one morning when Ben Hooley literally drops in.

Ben brings so much love of family into this story. He brings his brothers from PA and his delightful Maiden Aunts...Jerusalem and Nazareth. Be ready for a beautiful and loving journey with this family.

Bishop Knepp is in for quite a ride here, he wants Miriam for his wife. He is quite persistent is his desires. He seems to rule with an iron hand. Love how he is about to meet his match in this story! Yeah!

You will not be disappointed in how this story unfolds, and will not want to put it down. A really wonderful, Christian read!

As an additional treat, many of the mouth watering dishes that are mentioned have recipes included at the end of the book.

I received this book through Pump Your Book Virtual Tours, and Net Galley, and was not required to give a positive review.

He blew in with the storm.

Miriam Lantz scurried inside and grabbed s sturdy chair from the nearest table. Part of her wanted to call the Brenneman boys - her Rachel's finace', Micah, would be here in two shakes of a tail - yet she craved some time alone with this stranger. She told herself she was giving him a chance to recover before anyone else saw him in this sorry state -

"If ya don't mind my drippin' on your floor, I'll just rest here for a few."

Miriaim jumped. Why wasn't she surprised that the man had already stood himself up and come in without her help? He eased into the chair she'd pulled up.

"I'd ask what ya were doin' here at this crazy hour, in the pitch dark," he murmured as he looked around, "but I guess that's none of my business. I've got to tell ya, though, it smells so gut I must've passed through the pearly gate and into heaven."

Miriam laughed again in spire of her agitated state, "I'm bakin' pies and decoratin' cakes for the bishop's surprise party tomorrow. Gettin' the day's breakfast and lunch started too," she replied. "Welcome to the Sweet Seasons Bakery Cafe'..."

And that's how quickly Miriam Lantz life had changed with the latest storm. Was God perhaps giving her a sign that He had plans for her. Plans to include something other than being the object of Bishop Hiram Knepps design for a future wife and mother of his children? Was God perhaps bringing her hope in the form of Ben Hooley, a traveling blacksmith in search of a place to call home and set up shop?

In the latest novel by Charlotte Hubbard, Autumn Winds is the second book in the Seasons of the Heart Series and picks up right where the Summer of Secrets left off. We see that Miriam is still running the bakery while her daughter Rachel is making plans to marrying Micah. Her remaining daughter Rhoda has plans set on making the newcomer her husband. Even though he is a few years older than her, Rhoda vows to go to any lengths to make sure that Ben Hooley feels right at home, offering to make him his favorite foods as he sets up his blacksmith operation where Miriam's husband, Jesse used to work. Now that she is widowed, she offers the operation to Ben in hopes he might stay, but not to make a future wife for Rhoda, because sparks are already flying between Miriam and Ben.

Bishop Hiram Knepp will go to great lengths to ensure that Miriam becomes his wife, even announcing it in front of the whole community during his birthday celebration as his wish. Will Miriam be forced into a marriage of convenience with Bishop Knepp or will Miriam find happiness in the Autumn Winds with Ben?

I received Autumn Winds compliments of Kensington Books and Pump Up Your Book Tours for my honest review. Charlotte once again delights her readers with some unusual circumstances of being involved in the middle of two men who want to marry her, one for all the wrong reasons and the other for all the right ones. Miriam's biggest obstacle is doing what is right according to her faith while struggling with what her heart wants. She is always putting others needs before her own and at some point she has to realize that happiness and love is waiting for her to simply be willing to take a chance. How will she find a way to keep everyone happy while she searches for her own happiness at the same time? You'll have to read this one to see how it all turns out. There is a sweet surprise at the ending, lots of delicious recipes straight from Miriam's Sweet Seasons Bakery and Cafe. I can't wait to try these myself. I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars.
