When their disagreements start to cause big trouble in their Amish community, will these energetic nine-year-olds call a truce and acknowledge that their differences are what make them so special? You’ll fall in love with the first release in the Double Trouble series from bestselling author, Wanda E. Brunstetter. Author BioNew York Times bestselling author, Wanda E. Brunstetter became fascinated with the Amish way of life when she first visited her husband's Mennonite relatives living in Pennsylvania. Wanda and her husband, Richard, live in Washington State but take every opportunity to visit Amish settlements throughout the States, where they have many Amish friends.
Publisher's WeeklyNovelist Brunstetter, who specializes in Amish fiction, kicks off a series for younger readers. The two Millers of the title are soon-to-be nine-year-old twins, part of a large Amish family in Holmes County, Ohio. They play, bicker a bit, eat often, go to school, regularly get in very minor trouble (for example, Mark falls off the roof of the chicken coop into animal manure and Mattie loses track of her baby sister). When the twins, whose temperaments are very different, get a bicycle built for two for their ninth birthday, they also learn about working together. Its very safe and edifying, even instructive, given the glossary and brief introduction to the Amish culture in the books front matter. Compared to much other middle-grade fiction, though, its slow-moving. Ages 812. (June) 2012 Reed Business Information
